Dr. Franke is determined to make your writing better, so though his work seems hard, he's doing it for all the right reasons. Some of my best writing I've done with him, so I recommend taking him. There are lots of readings, make sure to do the summaries, and study like hell for that midterm. Final paper was hard, but take your time and you're good

Took him for Rhetoric, liked the class, professor very caring and good connection. Wish I had put more time into it expects you to talk about readings. Seems unprepared or random but I think he was just trying to shake me up. TONS of feedback on papers, I probably should have read it, seems to be a smart guy adn expects you to be smart.

I love Dr. David Franke! He easily became one of my favorite professors. He is a highly intelligent man, very well spoken, and very kind. His classes are based on group discussions of the material, but there is no textbook (he supplies handouts). I recommend this teacher to everyone! He really pushes you to reach your potential as a writer

Very kind and intelligent man but his class lacks direction. We had to plead with him to get a rubric for one assignment and the syllabus was created as the class progressed. It was not a hard class when it came to work, but as a student it is frustrating to not understand his grading or not receive feedback until it's too late. No exams or quizzes

Dr. Franke is a very intelligent person. His papers are difficult to write and you will have to read very difficult material. You will be a better writer and a better reader after completing his classes. Don't expect to get an A on his papers. Highly recommend Dr. Franke to those who want to be challenged.

There's no doubt that Dr. Franke is incredibly intelligent, talented and well-versed. However, in my humble opinion, his organization and direction are lacking. I can't honestly tell you I learned a heck of a lot from this class. Especially given the fact most papers aren't returned for weeks and when they are returned you have a "good" or a check

Really got a lot out of intro to professional writing with Franke. A lot of discussion and input is expected from students but this really gets you thinking. I wasn't a fan of every single writing piece but most were cool and not too difficult. He could improve on organization and not making so many changes to the syllabus, but good guy nonetheless

He is a great professor!!! He doesn't do traditional lecture and likes to involve the whole class in each discussion. He does grade pretty tough. Be prepared for that.

This guy is super. He's my advisor and whenevr I go see him he's always genuine, interested, and pleasant. His classes are hard, but I have had a ton of harder graders. Just do the work and stay calm. You'll do fine. And he's extremely helpful in the meantime.

He's a nice guy, but I always had the feeling that he did not like me nor respected my work. His class isn't necessarily difficult, but he does plan to do way more work than we actually complete. I suppose he's a bit unorganized, but he is a good guy and I never found him to be rude or harsh to his students.

Enthusiastic but papers are hard, no tests. All the papers you have to come up with your own thesis, gives good feedback. We wrote on zombies once. A lot of philosophy in the class, readings are hard but mostly interesting. I still think about this class a year later.

For an intro course, it's fun unless you hate to write. Franke can be meticulous and absurdly professional, but he has a broad understanding of exceptional writing. The reading is worth it, some prompts and homework are based on imitating acclaimed writers. The curriculum is exciting for a new writer with some level of interest in the field.

Dr. Franke is an amazing teacher as well as an amazing person. He gives very useful feedback if you ever ask him to read your papers. He is very available and returns emails very quickly. He doesn't return papers very quickly though, but overall, he is an AWESOME teacher.

Summer class. Content is good, but organization and grading is poor. Don't receive grades in time to write next paper. No idea how final grade was computed and was disappointed with grade.

He makes this class very interesting and I have been enjoying something that I hadn't inteneded to. It is a great class with lots of group discussion, lecturing is for only about 10 minutes and he understand that this class isn't our whole life.

Great class. Really hard but it was because it was really personal. You had to look at yourself like a writer for the first time. Great class, and great prof. I'd do another with him anytime.

one of the best professors I've ever had. Cares about students opinions and really WANTS to hear what you have to say. Not biased in any way. Completely fair. Hope to take another class with him senior year!
