giles was a good prof, but his assignments always threw everyone off. make sure u work with a group of people atleast a week in advance for his assignments, although he is very flexible if u wanna delay the submission. grading is very clear, go through his practice papers before exams. do well on first midterm cuz it carries the most weight (30%?)

Comment:

David Giles is an amazing professor. He is super caring and reasonable. His grading is clear and the course is well organized. You do not really need the textbook for this course, just read the slides and do the practice exams. The assignments ARE NOT google-able, so you really need to learn your stuff, do it in advance, and ask for help.

David Giles' lecture notes can be a little confusing at times, but he is always happy/willing to explain concepts that are unclear. Also, he usually has his TA's grade his exams and assignments (and they can be tough at times) but he is always happy to go over it with you and will oftentimes add marks where he sees fit. Overall a great/helpful guy

Dr. Giles is the best professor I have had in university. Not the easiest material to understand but he is always there to help whether it be in class, his many office hours, or out of class review sessions for both the midterm and the final. Above all else, he is one of the most approachable professors at UVIC.

Giles is one of the best professors I have met in UVIC. Although his lectures sometimes are dry and long, he explains the difficult knowledge very carefully and patiently. Also, it's important for you to look at his lecture notes before any assignments and exams because they are really important. In addition, he always smiles to us.

Dr. Giles was great. He was available all the time for extra help, let me hand in an assignment late because I had so much going on, midterm was clear and similar but still required knowledge. Final was tough but fail overall great professor. Go to class and go to the one of many reviews for the midterm and final and you'll pass.

He is super good at explaining questions. Very happy to answer students questions. He will have review sessions before midterms by himself (other professors usually by TA). He is always there! He isnt that type professor who gets moody if sees not many students attending classes or sees students playing their phones during class. Love him!

Prof Giles is by far the best at teaching at Uvic. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about statistics. Unfortunately for a lower level class I feel like his knowledge may be a little to much so the course is a little hard... Especially if you took 245 with Betty which prepares you very little for 246.

Best prof ever!!!!!! He is knowledgable and smart. Absolutely the best economics professor. His clarification is clear and concise. He is always willing to help his students not only with the class material but also other important issues like master applications. He is always smiling(k, not when he is very tired). He once replied my email at 4am..

Absolutely the best economics prof at UVic. Very helpful, always available to help students at any time (not just during office hours). Very fair midterms and finals, and his assignments are excellent in helping you learn the course. Had him for 546 and 246 as well.

A great guy who certainly knows his statistics, very helpful and accommodating to his students. Lectures were dry but he's clear with the material. Unfortunately, he seemed to spend little time on the things he actually tested on but went into great detail about things we didn't need to know.

One of the best profs I've ever had. He is very smart but is also very good at teaching. He gives good explanations and examples, have a high work ethic and wants you to learn. He loves statistics, which shows. I don't but he helped me understand it and pass the required course. Highly recommended!

Best prof at uvic, tough material, but he makes your life easy by scaling midterm and final. As well, the midterm was open book and you could bring a cheat sheet into the final exam. Highly recommended.
