He's a nice guy and kinda interesting. BUT...you have to learn 50 or 60 terms for the tests and then he only tests you on about 5 of them. If you're a history major then take him otherwise be ready to study ALOT of history before the test. oh and he always takes attendance.

I totally hated that I had to take this class because I had already taken it at my old school. BUT Dr. Gleeson is AWESOME! He totaly made the class fun and interesting. You won't want to skip his classes and you won't regret taking him. Loves for you to talk in class..do the readings and take notes, and you will do well. I would take him again!!

Assigned a lot of reading, but honestly, I never did it & used JSTORE book reviews to write those papers. Very tough grader in terms of writing style, though. Exams are difficult because they incorporate a lot of material. He's a good teacher, but can come across as unpersonable outside of class.

I liked going to class and learned a lot.You have to read daily to keep up and read 3 history novels,write 3 page papers on each and have difficult quizzes on each followed by class discussions where you HAVE to participate. The books were good and he is passionate about history. Borderline A/B,he gave me an A b/c I participated & tried hard.

Super nice guy...extremely intelligent and gives interesting lectures with stories and jokes thrown in. 3 outside reading books with mini papers, 2 essay tests, a final and term paper...hard grader, but worth it bc you learn a lot.

i really enjoyed the class. its all lecture minus book discussion. 3 books w 2- 3pg papers and a small quiz. hes really funny and really clear in lectures. also really good about answering questions if you have them. highly roecommended!

I really enjoyed his class, can be a little difficult with the grading. He does change the books up often, so you probabably will not read all the same ones as previous classes. Tends to throw in sarcastic jokes during lectures...listen for them...they're funny! :)

Great lectures. Well organized. Assigned 3 books to read with response papers but only worth 10% of your final grade. Test are easy study for becasue he is organized but he grades very strick and hard. 10-15 page research paper also required. Although he is tough, he is a good teacher.

God awful boring... Lectures are long and dull, and the books are just as dull. The papers you have to write on them are way too structured and give you no time to have original ideas, and because you can't really be original, the 50% style grade is annoying as crap... So long as you put effort into the tests and read the books you will be okay

This professor is horrible! 50% of your grade is graded on style! I thought we were suppose to learn history not how Ireland people grade English! talked to him about my tests and he just keep repeating himself like I didn't understand him! whatever don't take him, HE'S AWEFUL!!!

Dr. Gleeson is entertaining, knowledgeable, and fair! He is also laid back and down to earth. If you study his exam prep sheets and take good notes, his tests are not overly difficult. Read the text and attend class. I'm not a history major but I'm looking forward to taking another class under him.

Gleeson was a lot more strict than any other history prof i had at cofc. Turabian Turanbian Turabian. He is a good teacher, just go into his class expecting to be challenged. If i had a teacher like him earlier in my cofc career it wouldnt have been so hard at the end.

I did not really learn much in this class. He went through topics way to quickly which made it hard to keep good notes. I found it difficult to listen and take notes, and he did not seem willing to listen to my concerns. I would not recommend him.
