For all the people complaining about how he grades hard due to essays and discussions and attendance... Shame on you. It's your choice whether to fail so stop blaming it on him. I found his lectures interesting and he truly does want you to pass his class!!!

Tough professor, really good though...wants you to pass his class! He's a tough grader but he sets aside time where you can have him check your work 2 essays 2 tests tests are pretty much from the reading-theres alot of reading-and essays are worth alot! Attendance is necessary-you will fail course if you do not attend lect. and discussion!Gd tchr

THE WORST TEACHER EVER. DO not take him!!! the worst most annoying teacher ever he gives huge assignments way too much reading. And he gives horrible comments on your essays like "Do you even care about your future at ucr" or "talk to your counselor about attending a different school" or "you failed to do this and this and that" very degrading.

Glidden is a genuinely nice guy that truly does care about what he teaches, and practicing what he teaches, and truly cares about the well being of his students. However, his class is very difficult and the paper that is two thirds of your grade will mess you up unless you put extensive effort into it. Not a bs-able class.

I am shocked the number of negative comments; I thought Professor Glidden was in a class by himself; a liberal minded man who actually LIVES his ideology. How rare is that? Highly knowledgeable and endearing in a self-professed 'geeky' sort of way. I just loved him. He didn't 'teach' the class, he was the class.

If you don't attend discussion he will fail you like he failed me. I missed three discussion and he straight out said you better drop the class because I am failing you. Over three missed discussion!!!

A lame duck who tries to punish students of non-Phil majors by giving them as hard a time as possible on a intro breadth course. If you are clever enough and a good writer for the term paper, you can get a A without reading the books, just take good notes in lecture and skim parts of book you need.

He is quite difficult. Very soft spoken individual who definitely knows his stuff. He is very kind hearted and is willing to help you if you are in trouble. He takes improvement in the class to determine your final grade rather than just scores. Never undermine him when he tells you that you have to read everything...because he is serious.

Great Professor. His lectures were always interesting and the format for his class is pretty easy. It's just a couple quizzes and one big paper at the end. Highly Recommended.

David Glidden is a wonderful professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches and teaches the material very well. I was never too interested in the material he taught but he somehow managed to keep me awake in class. He expects a lot from his students. Despite of my initial impression of him, he was easy to talk to.

It was not a hard class if you did the reading. The midterms are easy if you study the notes. The final paper however can make you or break you in this class. Ask you're T.A. for help it might help.

An Ivy League scion oozing rank elitism, but strangely I am not taken aback. A refreshing throwback to the Old Left. A "conservative" liberal with a nostalgiac, faraway look in his eyes, pining for True Meaning, seemingly unable to come to grips with the Age of Irony.

you'd figure, intro course, easy right? well, not with this guy. tests are stupid, asks greek terms religously. Gives students the same excuse everytime why he doesn't curve or as general answer. Him and his TA's act like they are better than everyone, don't ask for help, unless you will be talked down to, or if your a know-it-all who brown-noses.

Granted, he likes philisophy but com'on where do we draw the line? I saw him go into StarBucks and he put his name down as "Plato". needless to say, his tests are relativly difficult because he tests on very specific details from reading. so pay extreme detail to reading. Final paper is nuts too.
