Best class I've ever taken, I think. Yeah, we had to read 4 books. it's a lot. The papers. he says they're hard, but don't make any grammar/spelling errors and they aren't. Exams are a breeze if you know the slides--the three exams combined took less than 35 minutes and I only missed one question. Lecture is fun and engaging.

Facts: You will read 4 books (daily reading questions to turn in) during the semester and write two papers about two of them (your choice). There are 2 multiple choice midterms and one final. Opinion: I enjoyed the 4 books a lot. I learned so much! Once you adjust to Grandy's style the class is enjoyable. The tests are easy.

Expectations are clear for doing well in this class. All you have to do is read, 2 papers, and 3 tests. The class was slow at first but got more interesting as the semester wore on. I learned a lot. All multiple choice tests that are straight forward. On average, expect 20-30 pages of reading before each class. Sometimes the reading is good.

I love Bro. Grandy. Such a nice man. His lectures are fun and informative. The format of the class was the same as the person below mentioned. Be prepared to do a lot of reading each week. Tests are taken mostly from lecture, so be sure to attend and take notes. This class is a GREAT choice to fulfill Civilization GE requirement. Highly recommended

Dr. Grandy is a very good man. Class was fun. I liked some of the books we read, and others I did not, but I feel like my worldview has enlarged because of what I learned. Mandatory reading for each class period, 2 4-page papers, 2 comprehensive midterms, and a final. Students are called on to present their reading ?'s every day, so BE PREPARED.

Grandy is a great guy but the class is hard! There is no forgiveness if you mess anything up. 2 tests, 2 papers, and a final. Reading the books isnt really necessary... just skim for the answers to the study questions. Lectures can be boring but take good notes if you want to pass the tests. He grades more on grammar than content on the papers.

Gives homework for each class period and randomly chooses someone from class to share their homework with the class. You will only have to do this once or twice in the semester. The annoying part is half the time he doesn't ask you to turn in your homework. Seems a waste. His tests are easy if you go to class and take good notes.

A nice old man with easy tests and a really boring class. If you are looking for a teacher who tells good stories or is very spiritual, keep looking. He doesn't go into any depth. However, if it is on the study guide it is on the test; if its not on the study guide, its not on the test. Class is very boring.

nice old man...good guy really. here's the deal though...i thought the class was pretty hard. here's the sylabus: two 40 point 5 page papers. each worth 15% of your grade. 2 tests each worth 35% of your grade. test worth 100 points, 25 MC and an essay on each. so don't mess ANYTHING up or you're chances of an A are slim. take good notes folks

Professor Grandy has got to be the nicest professor at BYU. His class is very organized and structured. Come to lecture and TAKE GOOD DETAILED NOTES and you will get an A. There are daily reading assigments, but they didn't take that much time to get done. Overall a good class and a great professor. His lectures were also very interesting.

Dr.Grandy is an awesome teacher. You spend the first few minutes of the class discussing a mystery of the universe, which i loved doing. There are really two parts to the class. One is the outside reading, the second is the lecture. You write two book summaries and the tests are completely off the lecture. Read and take good notes and you get an A

This was a good option for two GEs. It isn't terribly easy, but it is doable. It is definitely important to go to class each day. Print of the study guide and take notes on it. That helps the most. Almost all of the test questions are on study guide which is good because you know what to study. He's also willing to talk things over if you need to.

I was nervous about this class, but I have learned a lot. It's a lot of intense reading- 5 books, daily reading and questions. There are 2 two-page papers in which you analyze books and 2 tests (Midterm & Comprehensive Final). His tests are directly from the Study Guides he gives you and goes over in class though. He's very insightful.

Professor Grandy is a great teacher. His lectures are interesting and you learn a lot. The class has 2 parts. 1 reading and discussing 4 ancient philosophical works and discussing them (not on the tests only used in the essays). And 2 lecture on different civs which is the direct format of the tests

A great, easy religion class. He does go into some detail every once in a while in class but the tests are easy and you can use your scriptures. 90% of the class got over 95% on the exams.
