I will be honest this class is completely not worth it at all. He grades hard , his lectures are pointless , it is so much commitment for a upper GE. I really do not recommend this class , he is good professor but the class has no real criteria and grades hard

There is a total of seven essays that get more difficult as the course progresses. The prompts for the essays are unclear and all over with things he want you to write. READ CAREFULLY each prompt and answer EACH part. Get ready to spend money on class trips and listen to his THREE HR lectures. Takes attendance too and picks to answer q's randomly.

This class had a lot of papers and a lot of reading but it was very easy and interesting readings. He lets you redo your papers if you are not happy with your grade, he does however take forever to grade them. Field trips were fun and I enjoyed them! He can seem a bit mean at first but he means no harm he really is a big softy.

I took this class my first semester at CSUSM and really enjoyed it. Professor Avalos has a passion 4 what he teaches & cares about his students and community. Has many methods of teaching from writing papers, lectures w/slides, music, and fun field trips. Tough class but worth every minute. You definitely earn your grade. Take this class!

Professor Avalos might seem very intimidating at first but you get use to his sarcasm. He does call on people and he might seem rude at times so you need to have a thick skin and know how to take a joke! But besides that the class was enjoyable! lots of trips, and if you take him in the fall you make an altar for the day of the dead.

Professor Avalos is a very funny lecturer and has a deep passion for Chicano culture and its movement. I enjoyed learning from him and I'm glad I took his class. I have found a new appreciation for Chicanos and their art.

His really rude and no joke he can make his students cry with the words he says but his class is an easy B+ dont except an (A) because its SUPER RARE. Try to avoid contact with him i know its weird to say but he has a TA just talk to him and ask him for help instead.

He is a great professor. If you have to take this class take it with him his easy but hard grader and critiques your work . No final, no quizzes, no exams and only 1 field trip to UCSD, 3 papers and his comments come off a little too strong at times but he is just very opinionated and does care about his students that's why he doesn't have final.

Great class very easy to pass only problem is that the professor is very pickycorrects every little thing on your essays. He enjoys joking around with students but can be rather rude. If you have to take this class for your major take it and DONT MISS CLASS he will notice! There is NO exams, quizzes or final.... Only about 5 essays. No textbooks.

Sarcastic, intimidating, but also funny/helpful. Classes consist of working on adobe photoshop for 5 hours. You basically teach yourself, but he will definitely help if you need it. Must attend art events but the papers were super easy & not asking for too much. I learned a lot!

Avalos is a very helpful and open-to-ideas teacher. He grades based on how much creativity you use and how much you challenge yourself on projects. If you know how to use Photoshop already, you are at a huge advantage. He takes attendance everyday and class time is spent working on projects. Great teacher! Learned a lot!

Take this class only if you don't work and have a TON of time on your hands. He shares this class with Brandom Cesmat, who is a cinema professor. Both like to throw in a ton of meaningless assignments, such as poem re-citing, picture taking on campus in GROUPS, and a documentary project based on drama, painting, etc. No tests, but lots of projects.

He was a pretty good teacher who knew what he was talking about. He is extremely funny. As for tests, well there was none. Which made it alot easier come finals. The papers were like 500 words tops. He takes his prompts very seriously and he will get you if its not to the prompt. Very slow at returning papers back!! Overall, it was fun.

I was struggling in computer arts class because it was so confusing. It was so tedious to go through the lynda.com clips to learn how to use Photoshop. He could have at least told us which clip titles to view or better yet type up a handout of instructions.
