Great professor. Challenged us and was very helpful in and outside the classroom. Makes hard ideas easy to follow. Very funny and clever. I liked the chance to revise papers.

Terrible course! Did not help one bit with my writing skills. Incredibly ambiguous correspondence course, from essay questions to instructions to comments on my papers.

Class is very interesting, some are more fun than others. Comes off kind of pompus and above everyone else. If you comment in class he never really agrees with it. Thinks his thoughts are final. A good teacher though. He comes prepared to teach. Class mostly graded on essays, tough grader. Can be funny, is opposed to the bubble atmosphere at BYU.

Dr. Hatch is very annimated and is a great lecturer. He pushes the students to improve and is interested in their improvment. I loved his course and ended up doing better than I thought. I would recommend him to anyone. It would be a mistake to not take his class.

Comment:
This course was hard and I was intimidated by Hatch's personality. But the texts were fun and assignments weren't too hard. I loved class discussions. The paper was ok because the analysis papers prepared me. I didn't agree with all his ideas but I learned to be open-minded. He doesn't enjoy being in a Mormon environment and is distant to students.

I loved this class. I have always hated English classes, but he made it fun and interesting. It was easy to do the assignments and write the papers becuase he taught so well. Funny too. I wouldn't take 115 from anyone else! But I didn't need the books that were on the sylabus. They were a waste of money.

Makes the class fun and I was always excited to attend. Always something different. During the lectures it is actually easy to stay awake. Find him and take his class.

Liked class overall. He is very animated. Has quite a bit of class discussion over reading which is interesting. Some readings better than others. There were some minor dislikes. He a little tough on grading. I also didn't like some of the questions he asked on quizes and tests. A little egotistic

He was a good lecturer but I found his class to be very demanding. About half your grade is based on daily in class quizzes. The reading assignments are usually pretty long. He grades harshly as well. Interesting class, but the work load was a bit too much, especially for only a 200-level class.

Marked down for things other teachers said to do. Some assign busy work, others not enough time to do. Got one big assign on Mon, due Weds. Spent 5 hours, didn't finish. Feedback fast, but illegible--he couldn't read some of own comments on paper. Rarely used books--probably 1x--waste of money.

Hatch's Writing for the Arts and Humanities has got to be a lot easier than the other advanced writing classes. He's funny and smart. You can get through it without buying the books.(At least for summer semester.)

Great teacher. Academically minded, and somewhat demanding, but a great experience. Don't take this class if you just want to float through, but if you're looking for a true educator, you have come to the right man. Rather funny, sometimes sarcastic.
