Comment:
Prof. Jennings is pretty intimidating and doesn't treat the class as an Intro course. If you go to his office hours, he will help you. He's very strict on readings and students definitely shouldn't try to work together outside of class. I am honestly shocked I got an A in the class. Pay attention in lecture and study hard if you take him!

Professor Jennings is a tough professor. If you are not familiar to computer science, do not take him. He is very specific about the wording of your answers and code on tests and labs. Change this class to pass fail if you can or just don't take it.

If possible I would stay away from taking Jennings for an intro class, he teaches it as if the students already have prior knowledge about the material. He expects you ask questions in class, but talks to you like you're dumb if you don't know the answers. His lectures are very difficult to understand if possible take another professor.

Professor Jenning's expectations are "traditional". I do not mean that he does not care, or that he is not knowledgeable about the content, or in any way unfair. I mean he knows what he expects and will not accept anything less. You will not pass without putting in effort, but if you do, you will learn Python. He is a great teacher. Very smart.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE RATINGS!! David Jennings is a great professor and teaches well. All assignments are easy if you put effort in to them. He deserves a difficulty of 2 but the only reason I gave him a 3 is because most people to not give the effort you needs to succeed. If you pay attention and take good notes it is an easy A.

If you've never taken CPSC before, save your GPA by staying away from this class! I've got an online tutor and i go to PASS but I'm still failing because apparently what i do on labs is not what he wants even when they are right. He marks you tardy when you are less than 5 mins late! And oh you need a textbook for this class!

I did not follow ANY of his lectures in class. He usually rambled to himself or it would not make sense. If you skip you are done for, he was not helpful in office hours, would usually just say I thought I taught you that? And would leave it at that. Midterm and final were brutal. Those with CPSC experience would probably find this class easy.

He is terrible. On our midterm 19/23 kids failed and he blamed us for not studying hard enough. If you're new to CPSI do NOT take his class. You will be lost. He doesn't allow us to have study groups with classmates or get help from tutors because he thinks we will cheat. If your work looks the slightest bit like your friends he'll write you up.

You have to go to office hours to pass. He will really help you if you go to see him and ask questions. He openly says he does not treat this like an Intro course so don't be fooled by the name. Lots of homework but lots of opportunity for extra credit.

Good professor overall but maybe not the best for intro. He is an extremely tough grader. 10 points off for something that worked in my code but he didn't like stylistically

Dr. Jennings is an AMAZING professor. Extremely clear with the material and assignments. Will go over labs and projects with you as much as you need him to. He needs to see effort though. If you go to him because it's tough and you don't feel like figuring it out, it'll be obvious. Go to class, do the work, go to his office if you need help.

He is one of the harder teachers, BUT he is very excellent to learn from. I did HORRIBLE on my first two assignments, but after that my grade went nowhere but up. He gives superb feedback on everything, gives extra credit on tests, even gives you a 5-point buffer on final exam. Hard but fair. Study terminology as he likes fill in the blank.

When I started this class in Fall 2010, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Class was very dry, but Jennings did teach the material. Assignments were usually pretty easy and straightforward. Often times there was also an extra credit opportunity if you wanted to challenge yourself. I did well in this class and went on to major in CPSC.

Mr. Jennings is a great teacher, but his class can be very difficult. It's not that he's a bad teacher, but the material takes some time to understand. He's always willing to help with anything, and as long as you take notes and pay attention you'll do fine.

He's a good teacher. The course is tough to being with, but if you keep up with the work and take good notes in class, it's not that bad. Plus he gives extra credit for going to labs every week. He helps you if you ask for it. :)
