Really needs to retire already. One of the worst professors I've had at Macalester.

Lanegran is an amazing professor. He definitely knows his subject, and he's demanding of his students in what he requires them to know. He asks you to learn a LOT for the tests, but if you know it, the tests aren't bad and he's actually an easy grader. He makes the theory very applicable to the real world.

Great Professor. He uses AP level multiple choice questions that prove very difficult. You learn a lot of information and it is hard to know on what he will test you. Also one of the txtbooks we used he didn't have us buy and they were the basis of his Multiple choice questions. Buy the book or at least copy it from the library.

He knows his stuff but recently it seems like he's just hanging around collecting his pay check. His tests are poorly written, his power points have errors...even his text books have errors!

My favorite professor and my adviser. Vast knowledge of his subject, occasionally goes on tangents but never BS, always valuable to the class. Interesting lectures, less interesting discussions. No political aspersions (contrary to views of some hippy students).

Lanegran knows his stuff. While he's a little rough around the edges, he throws in some entertaining comments during class to keep you interested. He knows a lot and is great to talk to outside of class, which he's always happy to do. I'm continuing geography becuase he introduced me to it.

Comment:
Professor Lanegran is one of the most knowledgeable people on his subject. His lectures are extremely informative, he is friendly, and has a good sense of humor. However, when he gives feedback to the class, his comments are often inconsistent and disorganized. Overall, though, I would absolutely recommend this course. It got me interested in GEOG!

I challenge anyone who says Lanegran rambles to have anything better or more informed to say. He knows his stuff, is sweet and VERY Minesoootan, and wrote the book on a lot of North American urban geography. The best thing you can do in his class is stop by and chat in office hours. He's probably lonely, and who doesn't love his holiday sweater?

Lanegran is great. He has a huge knowledge of his subject and cares a great deal about his students. His lectures are usally interesting, but he does too many of them. There is a lot of reading, but it is usually interesting.

Comment:
I agree with the overall review of Lanegran on here. He is entertaining, but doesn't necessarily stay on-topic. His coverage of the important theory we needed to understand for exams was patchy at best; the field project was the only highlight of the course and outside of handing us the front page, Lanegran had relatively little to do with it.

Lanegran is a sweet man and gives really entertaining and informative lectures, about important concepts and things that have little to do with the class. Grading and tests seem to come out of the blue.

Lectures everyday that are usually entertaining or interesting, but sometimes no idea why they were remotely relevant. Field Work will occupy your time like no other, but there's usually little reason to do the reading except to cram before a test. The grading was rather arbitrary at times and studying for his tests isn't particularly helpful.

His style is old school and he is definitely just not interested in post-modernism, but at least he is straightforward about it. If you show interest in geography, Lanegran will take a real interest in you and your future.

Excellent professor. One of the two best lecturers I've had at Mac, fieldwork is fun and generally constructive, and extremely helpful outside of class. Does occasionally make fun of other disciplines or departments, but has nothing to do with "liberal" or "conservative," just entertaining.

lectures are very enjoyable. slide shows with funny anecdotes. but hard to follow when he writes illegibly on the board. very low workload (no reading). on the other hand--his tests can be very challenging and confusing (it's hard to know what to study). also his grading can be arbitrary. entertaining class with suspect grading.

Two of the worst classes I took at Macalester. I found is style to be cocky and his method extremely old school. He uses out of date text books and casts aspersions onto other (more liberal) disciplines. He chooses favorites and makes them known, and is an all-round lousy professor.
