Comment:
I took Dr. Lever for Chem 1 and Ochem 1 and it was my worst decision. I understand this course material was hard but unless you are a chemistry major or have over a 100% in his class he is absolutely no help. He would ignore me in lab and during office hours. I was actively trying to get help from him but learned more from a textbook! AVOID HIM

Every one knows OChem is hard and Dr. Lever expects you to put in the work to match that. If you do the in class reading and problem sets you'll do well. His notes can be hard to follow but he'll spend as much time as you need in office hours helping you understand them. Great teacher & great guy, lucky to have had the last 3 semesters with him

Dr. Lever makes you work hard for your knowledge, which is not a bad thing, because science has never been easy. He, however, also works hard for your success. If you expect a professor who will go the extra miles for your learning, he will be one of the few.

Dr. Lever enjoys making his students feel dumb. I tried to ask him for help and all he did was blow me off. He is the hardest and meanest professor you will ever have. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Comment:
Dr. Lever expects a ton from his student, but he is also a great teacher. His notes are very disorganized, but if you go in for extra help he'll spend hours explaining stuff if you need it. He can be condescending, but you just have to understand it comes from a good place--he wants to challenge his students. I have nothing but respect for him.

He is a hard teacher, but he loves what he teaches. You have to work hard and dedicate yourself to the schedule that he suggests. You will know everything that you're supposed to know. I personally think that he's great, and not scary at all.

I have never had to work harder to get a decent grade in a class and i loved every minute of it. if you're not a chem major, prob should consider Hervert. He's HILARIOUS and knows his stuff. seriously. He's definately devoted to his students but don't be fooled, if he knows you're not trying, you're sunk. oh yea, it helps if he actually likes you.

He knew he was hard, and he intended to show it. He's very helpful and will spend hours with you on anything you need, but be prepared to work. He could have been more clear in lectures, and though I liked the guy as a person tremendously his dedication to being difficult and intense often overshadowed his ability to get concepts across.

OMG! I've never worked so hard in a class before. Teaches a tonne of stuff, exams are ridiculously hard but he's fun!!! Most sarcastic professor. Take him if you'll be a chem major. If you're pre-med, work your self off!!!!

He is super fast. Very easy to find yourself scratching your head a few minutes into the class when he starts gaining pace and keeps going at the rate of naughts. But then he is the real deal in the chem department. So, you really want to take him for chemistry if you are a chemistry major

I only have him for gen chem lab, which never fails to go at least an hour over time. Takes off points in lab notebook for stupid things and is inconsistant in grading the lab notebook. Nice enough guy.

Comment:
David never guided students to the bigger pictures in organic. He focused his attention on those who were naturally inclined to memorizing mech details, working mentally as he did w/out helping those in need. I did well in the course but felt for those who couldn't. As a teacher now in chemistry, I use Lever as a model of teaching to aviod.

This guy is full of himself and definitely lives up to the stereotypical Organic Chem. prof that love's to play the part of the spoiler for the pre-med major - he knows it and is proud of it. He'll interrupt during conversation, don't even think about getting a word in edge wise. He'd be served well by taking a Dale Carnegie course.
