This class was painful to sit through. The monotoned voice of David went on and on about nothing. We would be assigned reading then go to class where he would read us the book. He marked based off of how much he liked you and it stayed that way throughout the entire year. NEVER AGAIN.

Only could receive a good mark if and only if you wrote an essay based on his ideas. Would not matter how intelligent or insightful it was, unless it was written on his ideas, tough. BORING would be an understatement. Could care less about the students. Strangely enough, put a feminist spin on EVERYTHING, and sometimes feminism wasn't even an issue

I am so glad I never have to take english. I found that I got the same mark on all of my assignment through the entire course. I am not expecting to develpoe a sudden love for english in my first year, but after this class I am thinking of giving the language up.

I find he tends to beat his points to death with a wooden pole. He has bland taste in poetry. His teaching style is not very engaging, and I find his editing and grammar skills a little off. But his heart is in the right place.

VERY unclear as to his expectations on papers..of over 25 stories covered in the term, the final grade was based on only two papers- of which, one dealt with stories outside the syllabus. This was a poor way to evaluate student's effort and capability. When approached, he was very unhelpful and still incredibly vague. Disappointment of a class.

enrolled in the summer course of 2003, with great enthusiasm. I was so put off by his pompousity and arrogance, I couldn't stomach even 7 weeks of it. His teaching style was not the least bit engaging. Sincerely hope he is not teaching next summer.

I found that I scored the exact same mark on all of my essays, even when I spend 3 weeks and put all my time into the essay or when I did the essay the day before. Did not like the class very much because it put me to sleep every time.

Dr. Matthias may have been a good teacher but his monotone voice and persona put me to sleep every class. I do know that getting a good mark in his class may not depend on how well you write an essay but how well you write the essay based on his ideas.
