Overall, David McNeil is a nice guy. Don't expect him to reply fast to your emails because he tends to take awhile. Also, like others have said, the grading is pretty harsh considering IT IS an intro english course. Also, you need to go to class because part of your mark is attendance. He doesn't call on you, but he does encourage people to speak.

Absolutely ridiculous. It's a first year course and the marking is ridiculously hard. Also, 10 percent of your mark is participation, therefore, attendance is mandatory, though he does record all of the lectures.

One of the better profs at Dal. He knows his subject, and doesn't appreciate lazy students. I had no interest in the subject he was teaching, and after it was over I still didn't ... but I learned a lot from his teaching anyways.

The only thing McNeil knows how to do is make sure the class gets a break. He has no idea what he is talking about and is uninspiring. Stretched out 15 presentations for half the class because he had nothing to say himself! How'd he get into the department? AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!

I am amazed at the positive comments here. It seems like Dr. McNeil has never read any of the material he is supposed to teach...and this is an honours seminar about ONE AUTHOR (Swift). He spends the whole class talking about what we're going to talk about in the next class...which never happens. It is impossible to even take notes in this class.
