Comment:
Frazzled and opinionated. Class had few speakers so it was boring. Sometimes he'd start class with "I disagree with X professor's lecture and here's why". He's confusing and disorganized. Will go over the time limit which was annoying. Disliked our writing so much he had us revise a sentence as homework. Surprisingly got an A, though.

Had to write 5 essays ranging from 1 1/2 - 4 pages, mid-term exam, & couple writing exercises. Tough grader on essays particularly on grammar. His discussion style is a little more freestyle which lead to some discussions being inactive to the point he did most of the talking, but if you read the text & actively participate can be a fun class.

His class was a huge source of frustration. He is unclear about what he wants regarding essays and quizzes. He more or less spends the entire class trying to convince his students of his own opinion while telling us our opinions are wrong.

Mikics may be intelligent but he is rude and believes his opinions are facts. If you take him, agree with him if you want a good grade. I've seen him tell other human sit professors their opinions were wrong. This is possibly the worst honors professor at UH and it does not help that the way he talks is extremely annoying like hes holding his nose.

When I read the comments the semester before taking his class I thought to myself, "I am not like these slackers, my experience with him will be different." It was not. He is as bad of a teacher as is reported. Why in particular? He is rude, gives minimal feedback on papers (7 in all), grades mysteriously and very hard. He is as moody as Lear.

I loved his lectures and always made a point to attend class no matter what. He's very knowledgeable but he does denigrate some students, especially those who think and act like they know it all. I found that amusing oftentimes. Papers were graded really hard (I though I would fail)- but final grade was a surprising B+

Comment:
This professor is rude and moody. His directions are unclear and he expects the students to read his mind. He has degraded the class with yelling and cursing. He does however know the topic (Shakespeare) extremely well. He is well spoken and delves into the material intensely.

Three essays, very easy topics, with some leniency but he is a top notch professor so it needs to be perfect! He has numerous books published, is at the professor level (not assistant or associate). He is the real deal. His analysis of Shakespeare is crystal. He is so kind to special circumstances, but he hates laziness and dumb mistakes

Friendly most of the time. Geeky and all that. Eager to help. Yet it is true of his tendency to consider his opinions the correct ones. I haven't seen him flat out say "wrong" but he makes it obvious that he disagrees. Easily irritated when he's in a mood. If you can keep your cool when he's pretentious you should do well.

Well, he struck me as being very similar to another of my instructors at first (Jaime Ferguson), but then he returned from, I think Chicago, after being snowed-in and he changed; he snapped at a consistently late student during class, responded to one student's question as well as one of my own in a condescending manner. I don't know what happened.

This professor is rude. He does nothing but disagree with any opinion other than his own. He has no respect for his students. He had no respect for his students' interpretations of the texts; all he did was tell us our ideas were dumb and useless. You have to agree with everything he says, otherwise you will not do well in his class.

I love Mikics! He's brilliant, and has a great sense of humor. I might not rely upon the poor rankings, particularly if they're too lazy to type "you" instead of "u." Listen, do the reading, and try to remember why you're in college: If you'd like to be something more than a cubicle drone, try learning something. Be a humanist, why don't you? A+

He likes to humiliate students infront of class. He is not open to discussion, and does not like to answer questions. When he does, he makes the student feel or look stupid for asking. The worst profesor at the University of Houston.

His teaching method consists of delivering, in complete nerd fashion, lame schtick for the class sycophants to dutifully laugh at. The actual impartation of knowledge seems beneath, or more likely, beyond him. He browbreats and humiliates students who are easy to pick on. If you are a good writer, he'll resent you. Worst "teacher" I've ever had.

Today he made my cry. He humiliated me in front of a class full of people and didn't even care! I will never take one of his classes again, even if that means not graduating on time.
