STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PROF. He is very old school and does not use the internet, check emails, or understand what social media is. He is very confusing with his lectures and homework. You must sit in all of his classes for him to ramble on about his past If you ask a question he might yell at you. You never use the book and everyone was confused

Stay away from this class if you need not to take it. There are 10 quiz's and you must memorize the book for the answers. There is also 1 paper and 10 movie reviews. The final is a recap of all the quiz's. I suggest anyone who does end up taking the course to record the questions he asks during the quiz's to help prep for the final.

This class is very old fashioned, he's been teaching since the 60s. It is extremely important to read your text book and outline the chapters. He gives a 10 question quiz at every class that is not multiple choice, so you need to be prepared. This class is not as fun as it sounds. Don't think just because you a "Movie Buff" it will be easy.

Dr. Hawes is not very clear with his instruction. He tends to ramble through lectures while giving you facts totally unrelated to the course. There is 1 quiz per week in which you have to completely memorize the chapters in order to be able to answer the random questions he will ask you. The midterm paper is decent being that its all about your personal opinion. Just make sure it's grammatically correct of course. The final is a recap of the 10 questions so its pretty bad. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!

Avoid this class at all costs. Dr. Hawes is a good man and he is very accomplished; however, this class is confusing, disorganized, and tedious. All quizzes apparently come from the textbook but he'll often have random questions in there. Unclear about grading policies; gets lost frequently. Lectures are rambling. I got an A but avoid this.

I don't know what else to say but to never. and I mean never. EVER. take this man's class. Writing is my strength and no matter what, anything you write will not be good enough for him. This class contains no structure, no guidelines, no TEACHING whatsoever. If he likes you you may get a B-, if he doesn't you're completely screwed.

I actually took his class a while ago. I got an A and though it was a low A said I was top of the class. He's not very clear on what he wants, but here's how you get an A: Do the rewrites. That's the key. Don't get discouraged by a bad first grade. Do the rewrites and depending on the improvements the grade may jump a letter and a half.

I can not stress how important it is to avoid this "professor". If you are required to take this class, find another professor even if you have to wait. This man will ruin your GPA with C's. Nothing you write will be good enough. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Do not take him at all. He teaches you nothing, so you practically have to guess or go by limited examples. He uses class to talk about random things and not at all about the assignments. Unfair grader and not at all clear about anything. When asked about a certain grade he made no sense and blew me off. Awful teacher.

Be prepared to write EVERY week. Assignments due every Friday. He has a unique sense of humor and tends to go off track during lecture; however, his stories are interesting. Use this time to start writing your papers. He has seen a lot throughout his career and knows what he's talking about.

I liked Dr. Hawes he will make you read your text book. Class was interesting .you have to take quizzes every class about 10 in total plus write 10 reviews of movies you watch during that semester ...and one midterm essay ...if you put your heart in every thing you will get above average grades final is commutative of old quizzes and easy.

Prof. Hawes knows film and cinema history and he wants only serious students.This class has a lot of heavy, detailed informational reading, and he gives an oral quiz each class. Tough but great teacher. This class is not a blow-off elective, so if you are not a serious student of film, take a pass because you will not be able to handle this class.
