I bring in a paper. He tells me its all wrong and proceeds to rewrite several parts for me... ok. I bring it in next week and he tells me its wrong again (very little syllabus given btw) and starts rewriting it again. Only, he rewrites what he wrote before, while pretending that I wrote it. Basically, his own work was unsatisfactory for him.

Changes his grading standards on the whim. Incredibly cryptic and doesn't know how to pace the class reasonably.

He is not clear in what he wants for projects and doesn't give good feedback. I received 2 examples of places where my project needed to be fixed so I assumed I was doing really well and would receive an A but I got a B+ and still have no idea why.

Comment:
Never take a class with Tafler! Just no! He is EXTREMELY unclear and inconsistent! And quite a perfectionist for an intro class! Even though he's a prof in my major, I'm never taking a class with him again! If you MUST take him because he's the only prof teaching a class you want (which was my situation) just beware!

Tafler is actually a really good teacher. He's always willing to help students after class and even on weekends and he grades tough so that students do the best they can. His scrutiny of projects and assignments has prepared me well for my job in the real world. recommended.

For our FYS in which we were supposed to learn how to write, we have worked on a grand total of one paper the whole semester. Overall the course was unorganized, unclear, and lacking in relevant content. To his credit, though, Dr. Tafler is good at giving individualized attention and makes himself very available outside of class.

Comment:
It's nearing the end of the semester and we have yet to recieve one grade in this "writing-intensive" course. He is very ambiguous and teaches us what he wants, not what a first-year seminar should be. He spent a whole class talking about himself and another whole class teaching us about "computer literacy". Avoid at all costs.

More helpful outside the classroom and while he teaches the material well enough for me to learn and be interested it's his assignments and expectations that are ridiculously muddled and hard to accommodate/understand. Just humor him if you truly love the course content but if you don't it will be a struggle.

has no idea what he's teaching for hypermedia....doesn't ever specify what he wants... because he is tenured and the head of the department, he doesn't give a****. not a quality or worthwhile class.

Like the rest of the communications dept, thinks they are g-d's gift to Muhlenberg. If only they knew how much they suck. Tafler is too friendly with females and makes his work harder than it should be
