Comment:
Over my years at Olivet DVH has been the best professor by far! There is never a time when I was not entertained by his lectures. He is very lenient when it comes to extra credit, due dates, and the length of papers. Be careful when you are taking one of his classes not to forget papers, because they will probably be the majority of your grade.

DVH is one of the most genuine professors and people on this campus. He truly cares for his students and shows that by doing his best to make the Gen Ed course easier. His passion for history is evident through the way he presents the lectures and through his enthusiasm in his voice. I would highly suggest this professor!

Discussion heavy: however, the prof will not mention it if you are on your phone for all of the class ( though may call you out later if you ask a question that has already been covered). Attendance is not mandatory, but if you don't have notes- get them from someone because he doesn't post the powerpoints and will not hand out notes.

He's an awesome prof. and is super laid back, but that doesn't mean you don't have to work. Be sure to STUDY for his tests and WRITE some papers. The pages and deadlines are usually lowered/pushed back, but you still end up having to write it.

This was a very unstructure class. Even though attendance was not mandatory, you had to be in class to get the all the notes because he does not post them on canvas. Yes, he gives extra credit and answers to the best, but still he was very off topic as well and hard to follow. Overall, I recommend to take this course at community college.

I've heard a lot about him so maybe my expectations were set high. Yes, he is very funny, can keep the lecture interesting, and genuinely cares about the student. But he rambles off a lot and sometimes it's hard to follow along. That was really my main issue. If there was more "structure" to the lectures it would be better, but that's just me.

His lectures are amazing and if you miss them you will miss questions on the test so go to every class if you can. Plus, you can't beat a prof. who is willing to cut down the final paper by more an half.

Great guy. Easy to work with. If you pay attention in the lectures you'll ace the class easy. Don't get caught up in the papers and such, most of those either disappear or get cut down by a lot.

You won't need "The West" for this class; he takes away the textbook portion of the test. Don't freak out about the workload cause he doesn't make you do all the assignments. When you have the worldview papers, BE SURE TO sum up the entire chapter and then focus in on a certain part of it. That's how you'll get the best grade. STUDY YOUR NOTES.
