Yoon is a wildcard to be honest. He's genuinely a nice person, but can't teach very well. Class is ehh. A lot of people just stopped going as the semester went on. He gives you 6 programs and 3 exams. 3 of the 6 programs are in c++/java while the other 3 are in x86. The first 2 exams are pretty easy while the last one is HARD. GL with this class.

Programs were easy. First exam was brutal, the questions built on top of each other. Second exam was easy. He dropped the lowest exam score. Make sure you know everything on the slides. His exams are each 5 questions. All the questions are based off the slides. The slides can be hit or miss. You can find most of the material online. Dont buy books

50% of your grade is 3 exams (1,2,Final), and the other 50% is based on your programs (roughly 6). Programs are brutal if you don't know x86 language (which he kinda sucks at teaching). But I youtube'd it and managed to learn it real quick. He's a real laid back grader. Gives you up to a week past deadline to submit. Tells funny dirty jokes lol

He is awful. He's rude even though a lot of his slides are wrong. Gives no study guide so students go into tests blind. Tests averages are usually abysmal at 60% but he gives really easy programs. He is the the worst professor I've had at the uni.

One of the worst professors at UM-D and def the worst in the department. This guy is extremely difficult to understand and combine it with the very abstract topics, it makes a hellish experience. Another CIS prof said regarding hiringWe dont care about charisma, we care about research and that shows. Can confirm does tell students to google it

4 relatively easy programs, 3 exams including final which is not cumulative. Final was average in difficulty, whereas the first 2 exams were easy. Lecturer has a very monotone voice and is difficult to follow, but most of the exam questions come from lecture slides anyway so study those really good and you should be all set for an A in the class

It was very difficult to follow his lectures. He read mainly off the powerpoint, but did not often give enough context to tie the different subjects together. I had to read the textbook thoroughly to understand the purpose & context for the various algorithms discussed during class.

Comment:
VERY condescending; openly mocks students. Often slides are wrong, and when called out on it, he blamed the students for 'not knowing what he had meant to write'. By semester's end with his classes, all but 5 of us stopped going to lecture because we all have to Google the material anyway (which, when you ask a question, his answer is 'Google it')

Go to EVERY class. He gives subtle hints as to what questions will be on exams, and he only says it once. I went into the final knowing 3 questions that would appear on it. The only issue is that he has trouble understanding students' questions during class, but that didn't affect me. Programs were easy. Tests had 55-60% avg. Curves class at end.

3 Tests are 50% of the final grade and 6 programs are the other 50%. The first four programs were easy, the last two are difficult. The subject is difficult to learn and he doesn't teach it well. The class average on tests was around a D-. If you just want a good grade then take him. I had a D+ in the class but he curved it to a B-.

One of the worst experience I had so far at U of M-D. like others stated, he does't deliver ideas or concepts to students clearly, his slides & examples are full of mistakes, even worse ( his exams are extremely difficult and some Questions were never explained in class ). HE IS NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL, avoid if you can. learned nothing from him!

Worst CIS professor at UMD, future students beware. Does not clearly define what will be on the exams and gives questions that are way too in depth. Accent is tough to understand but to add insult to injury his lecture style is horrible for a class with complex topics, just reads off the slides and makes numerous errors in his powerpoints. BEWARE

Honestly I breezed through with a C by going to 80% of the lectures and sitting on my laptop half listening when I did go. Kind of a teach yourself course since he's dry and hard to understand during lecture and tells you to 'google it' when you ask a question out of class. Programs are easy, exams are average.

3 projects 2 exams (1 was optional). Was really good at lecturing in CIS310, but here and having to explain complicated matrix mathematics he came off as extremely confusing and felt like a waste of time. It was rough class to sit through, although the projects weren't hard once you set up the libraries. I wouldn't take this class again with him.

I had to put 7 hours a week just to search how to study the material. He is a very terrible professor. I do not mind his English, but I do care about if is teaching the class or just reading his notes that are full of typos and mistakes. 5 questions in each exam and if you messed up on one that means you lost 20 points.I am a 4.0 student though

Terrible professor. Disorganized, hard to understand with his broken English. Uses C code in his examples when all the 150 classes teach C++. Reads from slides and wastes 30 minutes reviewing last lecture's material. Avoid. He was the only person teaching it in the fall. It was hellish.

You need to attend class although its not mandatory to attend. His notes are on chalkboard and are very clear. His English is passable, but he can be challenging to understand sometimes. The tests are challenging, but study the text and his notes and its very doable. You'll learn a lot especially about logic. 6 projects and 3 exams in course.

The material he teaches doesn't find its way to tests. His tests are on topics he does not teach. When you ask for help he'll think he's answering your question but really doesn't because he doesn't understand. Doesn't give much information on what to review for test, nor what is actually on them. Avoid!

Laughs at students who gets answers to example problems in class wrong. And often refuses to answer questions unless you ask him multiple times. And doesn't give any hints about the contents of the exams. But you have no choice but to take him, so good luck.
