I cannot express how much I loved this class. Dr. Bowen takes you on a journey of Western North America through lectures mixing geography with geology, history, economics, agriculture, and environmental science. I loved the detailed maps for each region studied, but be ready to spend some time learning them for the exams. Exceptional professor.

Dr. Bowen has a great way of lecturing and posts all of her presentations on Canvas before the class meets. She also has maps that you'll have to fill out and study for her exams. There are only three tests and the tests are separated into three sections - multiple choice, matching, and maps. Make sure to attend study sessions and ask questions!

Comment:

Dr. Bowen has been the best professor I have ever had the chance to work with. She was very helpful when I would visit her during her office hours. However, her exams are EXTREMELY hard. There are only 3, so every point counts. I would recommend her. You will have to work hard for your grade, but it is totally worth it!

Dr. Bowen is easily one of the best professors at UMW. Her classes aren't easy A's, but even if you walk out with a C you will be glad you took the class. If you need help, she will be more than willing to help you, its not mandatory, but go to class. Don't expect to glide by. You will learn a lot, and she brings her dog to class!

Dr. Bowen is an amazing professor. She is extremely passionate about course material and wonderful at getting it across, she clearly communicates what her expectations are for the class, and she is always there to help. By no means is this class easy, but it was eye opening and I looked forward to going every day!

Field Methods with Dr. Bowen is fun, challenging, and certainly worth taking if you are looking for an upper level methods class in Geography. She challenges you to look at things differently and think critically about places you visit (all over VA and other places!). Dr. Bowen means it when she says learning is an experience!

Doctor Bowen is incredible. Her class was 30 minutes lecture with 20 minutes of pictures at the end (221 &222) Shes always available for help and she's incredibly friendly, funny, and sarcastic. She's my advisor so I think she graded me hard with her expectations of me but take good notes, read, put time into your papers.

After one class with Dr. Bowen, I declared my major in Geography. Since that class, I have taken plenty of others with her. Her passion for the subject rubs off on her students. I have taken 6 classes with Dr. Bowen and I wish I could take more. She is a wonderful professor and a great friend. Her love for Geography will helped me love it too. You won't find a better professor at UMW. Attend classes and go to her office hours. Ask good questions in class and travel with her if you can!

Doctor Bowen is funny and her class is a very home like atmosphere, shes very honest and funny and makes class interesting. She has been to all of the places you learn about so she really knows her stuff, seriously shes a genius and shows a alot of pictures for visual memory. Her tests are fairly hard, make sure you read the text book. Shes great!

Bowen is an amazing, passionate, and incredibly helpful professor. Her class was on the difficult side and you won't do well if you don't attend. Make sure you take sufficient notes and always ask questions; she is eager to help. You must study for the tests, and when she tells you to know certain things, KNOW THEM. I love Dr Bowen! She is so helpful and makes all of her lectures as fun as possible. She is tough and you do have to work for your grade, but I promise you will learn so much from this work. The people complaining about the amount of reading per class are just lazy.

I really enjoyed the classes, but the tests were horrible. It seemed like no matter what you studied the exact opposite was on there. It seemed liked you could never be prepared. The maps were a pain as well. I enjoyed the class and liked the teacher, but hated the tests.

Dr. Bowen is a very nice person and is a good professor. However, her tests are difficult if you don't study exactly the right things. I feel that her questions are very specific, and you have to look at a lot of details in the book to get certain questions right. I have definitely had my share of struggle on her tests.
