Deans class is demanding, challenging but very hands-on; necessary to be ready for the professional world. Friendly and humorous, hes a great guy and his class helped develop my work ethic. Besides writing stories, he assigns useless busywork in the form of reading responses. His feedback can be a bit underwhelming but otherwise, A+ professor.

Awesome guy. Lectures and guest speakers are very interesting. He knows everyone's name by the second day of class. Pay attention because he calls on everyone randomly by name to answer a question. First experience with journalism. It's tough at first (a story due every week) but you improve quickly. Great class, take Intro to Journalism with Dean!

Dr. Nelson is an AMAZING professor! He is very successful and it shows. He has a refreshingly open-minded attitude and is very laid back. You really learn a lot about writing even though it is a GE. Work is daily reading summaries, 3 papers, and one research paper. In class discussions are great so participate in them. Take Dr. Nelson!!!

Dean Nelson is THE BOMB. Not only does he have a gift to magically turn freshmen into decent writers, he is HILARIOUS. He also has a very refreshing and open-minded personality that is sometimes hard to find on this campus. He gives busy work but he grades it on participation. He cares for his students and is great to listen to. Has GREAT stories!

I had this guy for Creative Nonfiction and for Intro to Journalism, now have him for Writing on Popular Culture. He's very knowledgeable and interesting - the only classes I never get bored in. What you learn is actually relevant, too. He's got a dry, hilarious sense of humor and is just about the best professor at PLNU. Fair grader, too.

One of PLNU's finest profs. Very knowledgable about the field of journalism. Has all kinds of connections and brings in great guest speakers. He is a hilarious guy and very laid back, but will challenge you and help you get where you need to be with your writing. The only negative thing I would say is that there was a bit too much busy work.

I took Nelson last year and really enjoyed his class. He is a great prof who is very good at keeping your interest. Makes you think and challenges you as a writer. I am very thankful for his advice on my writing style. Is a funny guy who is not too serious. Good guy with high recomendations.
