Really smart, interesting, articulate, and engaging. Fantastic professor in both HON and ENG classes. Lectures are amazing, he's a great writer, BUT he also encourages a lot of class participation. Presentation/paper, 3 short papers, lots of reading, research paper. He's also kind, happy to help students, non judgmental, good guy. Take his class.

I took him for a first year seminar and he was fantastic! He does assign a lot of reading but it it all doable and he is very flexible based on what his students need. He is very well respected in his field and an extremely caring person in general. Would defiantly take him if I had another opportunity

I took a poetry symposium with him. He's a really cool and chill guy, and an awesome poet. He's really good at giving helpful criticism and I got the impression that he genuinely cared about everyone in the class. I would definitely take another class with him.

I knicknamed him "Name Dropper." I took his Native American Lit class, and a day did not end without him mentioning how he knew Sherman Alexie or some other Native American writer. His class was interesting, but he was never there. He does grade VERY hard. I do wish he was leading the writing emphasis for English majors.

Have taken several courses from him including Intro to Literary Study, a Period Course (1900 Poetry), and much more. Hands down the most articulate and funny professor out there. Not afraid to speak his mind and will always ask you what your take is on it. If you're in English Major, you have to take him. Come on, he's the Dean.

He grades papers really hard, and there is a lot of reading, but it is all really interesting. He lets the students lead the class while adding a framework. Really interesting. Only complaint might be his political bias.

He is both witty and intelligent, having vast experience in the writing world. I liked his casual style, and the homework is light, but he grades papers critically.

Hands down my favorite professor at USF. The American Experience has tons of reading but as long as you get a good idea of the thesis of a reading you'll be fine. His discussions are insightful. He's very intelligent. He currently has a blog called the Weekly Rader, which I still read because he's an excellent writer!

I took his Writing&Pop Culture course, which was very interesting and fun. We had awesome discussions and read great essays and articles. It's not a tough class as long as you participate and pay attention on workshop days. He might not be teaching anymore since he's Dean of Arts&Sciences, but if he does, take his class!
