Prof. Gerson is every bit as uptight about classroom behavior as everyone says she is. So many students spend the class on the phone, facebook, or talking, and I hate it. It's distracting. Gerson is doing her job, and tries to make sure that those who are there to learn have the opportunity to do so. She knows the material, and is passionate about

I took this class on accident but it was very insightful. Yes, she is boring and very anal about attendance and student attention but she knows her stuff. Theres not much of a work load either. Can get away with never reading. overall, interesting subject/class. It just sometimes drag.

Gerson is a terrible teacher and it just makes me think how easy it must have been to get your PhD in the 60's. She doesn't know how to grade or just doesn't take the time to do it and is much more concerned with keeping her class in line as if it were a highschool class. She's chased multiple people out of her classroom because they were leaving.

SOOOOOOO BORING! discussion were not that stimulating and the papers were not at all fun to write. there is a long paper due at for the final that was difficult to write since she didn't clarify what she wanted

Gerson is definitely rude and treats students like children. But if you go to class and take notes on everything, you can do well. Most of the class struggles b/c they don't show up and don't do the readings. Take someone else if you can. This class isn't easy or hard. GO TO CLASS and make sure she knows your name by participating!

a lot the comments here are unfair. Yes, she's kind of paranoid, but she obviously cares about her subject, and even if teaching is an awkward fit for her she still manages to show that she cares mire often than not. The reading is interesting and engaging, and even if you don't do all of it you can still ace the class if you don't skip. DON'T skip

The class itself is intersting, if you enjoy learning about civil rights, and other social movements. However, don't take this class with Gerson. She is neurotic and clearly hates dealing with students and loves to embarrass them in front of the whole class. This class becomes more about disciplining students rather then actually learning.

dont take this class. at first she seems easy and thats how many people get sucked in but in reality she is very unclear about what she wants in her papers and grades very hard. she makes students feel stupid if they dont answer her questions with the answers she wants .attendance is mandatory.she rambles on alot

Prof. Gerson is not as bad as everyone puts her out to be. This class was interesting and the class discussions were really fun. Make sure to attend class regularly, do all of your work, participate in class discussions and you will pass with an easy A! Whatever you do, DO NOT TEXT in class because she will call you out!!!

Seriously DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR OR ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. She treats her students like children and I mean kindergartners. Gerson once followed a student to the bathroom because she thought the student was texting.CRAZY! Basically do not waste your time with this professor.That is the best advice I can give you.

Apparently she is retiring and I hope so. The concepts in the class are helpful but she is a horrible professor. She puts people on blast for just taking out paper because she thinks they are mocking her. She puts more time into mocking students than teaching. Take Labor Studies, just not with this professor. She is a waste of time and just gross!

Had her for 2 classes, review below also mine. The difference is that i learned new things in this one. While it was a bit unclear what she wanted for the paper on work struggles (unclear that the presentation was voluntary, not mandatory). The final was really easy, and we watch a lot of movies (go anyway, attendance counts & theres reflections)

Assigns a lot of reading, but we dont go over or get tested on most of it. Just read whats online and then the novels, ignore the RCG book. Class feels like a rehash of what everyone learns about civil rights, etc. in high school. Sometimes seems condescending. Other than that, the readings are kinda interesting & shes not THAT bad, a little weird

Deborah is an awesome teacher!Unlike others I found her instructions to be quite clear.If your on time, don't miss class, and participate, your sure to get a good grade.The content and reading is invaluable. Everyone else likely whines about her because they miss class a lot/or are late- Deborah does not like this. Suck it up & go to class-on time
