I love having her. It can be hard to pay attention in the mornings, but I did well on essays for other classes because of what she taught me. She is brilliant. She changes the syllabus a lot, but she doesn't give you a lot of work like other professors. The assignments are pretty straightforward. Also, you better know where to put a comma!

I enjoyed having her. She can be confusing at times, but all you have to do is ask her about the assignment if you're confused. If you know grammar, big words, and things about Ireland, she'll adore you. Don't talk while she's talking!! That's rude no matter what, but she really gets mad about it. She can be a tough grader, but it's not too bad.

Don't take her if you can avoid her. Seriously. She threw a fit everytime someone got up to go to leave the room, and if she saw your phone she would threaten to take it. I'm sorry, forgot I was in high school again. She's too harsh of a grader, plays favorites, and talks down about other professors. She doesn't teach. She just talks.

Make her feel like she's the most important person in the world and you'll be fine. Be very inquisitive...she likes that and don't show up late unless you're clearly a favorite. Use the book, as she may lecture but what she says isn't on the test but what's in the book...is.

VanTuyll is the world's worst teacher. I had to teach the students around me the material because VT didn't teach it well at all. Luckily, I already knew the programs. Also, her grading is ridiculous. Plus, she plays favorites. She also thinks she is a great designer, so she critiques your designs in reference to what she would have done. AWFUL!

When you take a class from Dr. van Tuyll, and you'll have to at some point if you're a communications major, just do the very best you can. If you try hard and behave like an adult who intends to become a communications professional you'll do fine. If you're here for the education you'll be happy in her classes. They're fun, but not playtime.

She isn't as bad as the rumors make her sound. Go to class (I found every lecture interesting), take good notes, and go over the material before a test and you should be fine. Her tests are open book! Oh, and keep up with the research paper assignments throughout the course. I did the work the night before deadlines, but I got an A in the class.

A wonderful, but tough mentor. She is willing to help with projects from OTHER classes, which many profs will not do. She is fair minded, but do not come to class without having prepared yourself and ask plenty of questions if you are unclear on what she expects. She is one of the best I have encountered.
