Comment:
I had a very hard time with professor Youngblood. Her personality is very, very salty and I'm not sensitive by any means but her constructive criticism was more like calling you stupid. She does not put effort in to students she believes will not excel. Every time I reached out to her outside of class I felt rushed by her. She was no help to me.

Comment:
It is obvious that Professor Youngblood has an amazing grasp of all things Russian History, but when it comes to being a helpful resource for students she falls flat. Unless she decides you are smart enough to spend time working with then don't expect real help, her criticisms can be helpful, but are often filled with unnecessarily shady digs.

I was scared of her the first few classes, it seemed like this class was going to kick my butt. But going to lecture, taking notes and paying attention made writing the weekly essays pretty easy, and she is a fair grader. Really helpful if you're confused, just email her or go to office hours. I learned so much and want to take another class w/her

The absolute best. I had her for three classes and she was brilliant, caring and fiercly passionate about the work being done. If you take the time to visit and talk to her about the work, she will give you all the time in the world. She can be intimidating, but also one of the better mentors and teachers you can have while at UVM

Youngblood is brilliant and a most excellent professor. Her lectures are fascinating, she is extremely helpful, and she works hard. Her analyses of Russian history are clear and wicked intelligent. Her classes will teach you how to crank out thoughtful, well-written essays. You will come out of her class knowing a hell of a lot more, well worth it!

Brilliant;one of the best professors I took at UVM. Lectured without notes, just straight analysis and dates from memory. Shes nice but all business: you are here to learn, she is here because she knows what the hell she is talking about. Again, great professor. If you love history and arent lazy, take Denise Youngblood.

Greatest professor UVM has! Have taken a few classes with her, and would happily take more. She pushes her students to be their very best, and has such cool stories about her own personal experiences in the Soviet Union. Really passionate about the subject and makes every class a joy.

Professor was okay, very well educated about the class subject. she talked way too fast, and notes were very helpful and needed to do well on tests. her exams are a challenge, with little to no room for mistakes. however, she does provide numerous extra credit possibilities.

My favorite professor so far at the university. She is hard in a way that pushes people to try harder by grading people against themselves and what she knows they are capable of. She does not always give the highest marks on papers but she has plenty of opportunities for extra credit. (I boosted my grade by 2 letter grades)Overall a great teacher

Solid professor, task master expects attendance and the workload is heavy. However, she is flexible and very willing to help with drafts of papers. No exams per se. Only take homes(mid term and final) and weekly essay assignments. I believe she is on sabbatical for fall08 and spring09

One of the best teachers that I have ever had. Have taken several classes with her and every one is amazing. I have never missed a class and never wanted to. She is so passonate about her subject and so knowledgable. She was very good about showing the shades of gray in the history and making you look at the people and situations with a new eye.
