Comment:

Extremely challenging history classes that will teach you to think & understand history. Tests are take-home essays & weekly open-book quizzes, a scary idea? but it will teach you the goal of education. If you do well in this class, very possible with work & enthusiasm, it will define your future education. I actually got an A+ on a 30-pg essay!

Comment:

Professor Frisch helps you develop an analytical approach in understanding History. He expects High Quality Essays as he should. This course was one of the most challenging, and at the same time most rewarding courses I took. This is NOT an "Easy A"class. I passed both of his classes with A but worked really hard.

History Major here. Attended HIST 24 & 25. Best professor I've had all my life, in terms of knowledge and sheer influence. His classes are NOT easy. If you are not a history major or hate history, don't bother. If you ARE a history major, you MUST attend his class. Put in 90% effort and you should get an A. Take THOROUGH NOTES. He knows SO MUCH.

Comment:

Although the class can be quite tedious, I really enjoyed him as a professor. He is extremely knowledgeable and thorough in his notes. He doesn't even give tests for this class, so if you put time into the midterms and finals then you've got an A. He basically outlines those for you as well and gives a reasonable amount of time.

I used to be a straight A student. Now my record and hope is tarnished because of this one class. His class will destroy any sense of morale or motivation you have left. Yes his class prepares you for UC, however he makes it impossible to even get into a UC. I sacrificed my livelihood for absolutely nothing. Enough said, terrible professor.

Do not ....I repeat do not even think about taking this class....worst and hardest professor at SMC....If you want to pass this class you mind as well drop all your other classes you will take atleast 4 hours daily to pass hiss class....and going to his office hours is pointless

He scared me a lot. The first day of class I tried to do some of his work, and ended up spending a good 7 hours just on the first assignment. He says the study guides are what on the quizzes, and that is not the case, if you tell him it isn't he comes up with an excuse saying it was. IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR GPA UP, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I am an A student and I write college level papers, and I got a C- on my nine page paper. He is a terrible Professor and I learned absolutely nothing from his class. You go to class and he talks, and talks, and talks... did I mention he talks? Terrible class. DON'T TAKE!! He says "on that" after every sentence too. It gets very irritating.

WORST CLASS EVER. YOU WILL STAY UP ALL NIGHT MAKING STUDYGUIDES THAT WON'T EVEN GET YOU A DECENT GRADE IN THE CLASS. GETTING HELP FROM THE TEACHER IS A NO GO EITHER. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IT WILL RUIN YOUR GPA AND QUALITY OF LIFE.

You get study guides for your weekly quizzes but sometimes they are 12 pages long. You'll probably spend between 3 and 7 hours on each. Take home essays (2) were not that difficult. I thought I turned in one bad essay and an okay essay and i still got a C and high B respectively (B for the course). I hope you enjoy reading! Mostly useless lectures.

Look my AP history teacher in high school gave us around 60-80 essays to write a year, and we had to read around 500pgs. This class requires a lot of reading, and i mean reading which might not seem a lot in pages but you HAVE TO right down everything on the study guides. quizes ask difficult questions but key thing is i learned a lot.

Hard class,but I liked it,I am hist.major.He is nice,but hard grader.Sometimes not clear and if u are not hist.major,and don't like to read a lot,do not take him!I got B,essays killed me,and had A-s on all quizes,which are 45% of your grade.Attendance is 10%,and I never missed the class.However,I learned a lot. Good luck,trust me,u will need it.
