Professor Paoli is really educated on the material he assigns. His lectures on the authors and the history may seem pointless, but pay attention because it will help you add extra detail on the papers and further argue your point. His feedback is very blunt and honest. He's pretty critical of writing.

Hes very fair. Very hyper. And hes full of rhetorical questions. Hes not just a cool hyper professor hes also in the writing center, so he sees EVERYTHING!!

He's a lot of fun. He's smart and crazy at the same time, but he's always on point with what he says. We read every classic Gothic novel, from parts of Hamlet to Frankenstein to Dracula. He gives two papers which have high standards, and a final exam which is take home. He counts attendance with response things which he gives sometimes. No policy.

most boring class in the entire world he doesnt encourage class participation, no notes on the board, no power points.. its just him standing there lecturing. and he jumps around from topic to topic. the class was easy though & attendance wasnt mandatory but be warned thats more of a test than anything. he definitely notices if you show up or not

Comment:

Very knowledgeable about Gothic literature and English literature in general. He is an animated professor and his lectures are kept interesting. His expectations for the term paper is rather high, but he is also very willing to help. On the down side, his teaching style does make the students feel a little inadequate.

His readings for the Gothic fiction class were very interesting, and his ideas are definitely intriguing. Attendance is not mandatory. He really cares about his student's writing skills, and is willing to work with students to improve their grades. His lectures are a bit long-winded, and kinda drag sometimes.

I am in love with this man's brain! He's inspiring, motivating, serious, witty, eloquent, a little nutty, very passionate, impressive in his breadth of knowledge, and simply amazing! His feedback on my essays helped my writing enormously. This was my absolute favorite class this semester - and I didn't know anything about Gothic Lit before!

After each class, I remember leaving, getting on the train, and still being lost in thought over what we discussed in Professor Paoli's class. He's very engaging and raises excellent discussion topics and ideas. I really enjoyed the readings, and gained a new appreciation for Gothic lit. Take if you're willing to think abstractly and write about it

One of the best courses I took this semester. Prof. Paoli is really well versed in the material and it shows in his lectures. He covered works so thoroughly, even if you did not have a clue what the reading was about, you walked out of the class knowing EVERYTHING about it. Essays (~3) were straight forward. I would definitely recommend him.

He is the writer of the Reanimator and From Beyond for crying out loud!!!!! How could this professor not rock. Those were the most amazing horror movies to date. I never had him as a teacher, but I did know him at the writing center. Super, super cool. If you don't take him, you're an idiot.

The only thing I regret is that we did not dive into the books a little deeper. But, I think he doesn't spend eons on a book when he trusts that the students are smart and are getting the material. He allows you to revise which is fantastic! And is very witty! Love this Professor, so far my fave at Hunter.

one of the best professors I've had, no lie. loved the texts, he was a hard grader because he wasn't taking lazy crap papers, only wanted your best. I handed EVERYTHING in late and still got an A. has a tendency to talk A LOT, goes off on tangents, but is fun to watch and listen. would take it again if I could. he was kinda cute too :)

Intelligent, funny, and a brilliant teacher, Paoli is devoted to his students and knows his material well. I took this course in the fall of 2003 and still wait for a teacher who will match his talent and enthusiasm.

This class was amazing! Professor Paoli is a great lecturer who knows his stuff. I was interested in Irish Literature beforehand, but his class inspired me to study abroad in Ireland! He's eccentric but a really nice guy and really helpful 1 on 1. Highly recommended professor and class!
