Comment:

Math is not about definitions, but that is all that you are going to do in this class. He spends more time going over definitions than teaching the concepts. Luckily I had a class that taught similar concepts later so I learned the material elsewhere. Avoid this guy if you can.

VERY KIND GRADER! Ok teacher, but if you dont get math, you just dont get it dude. Dont pretend. He is the best for extra credit. Every exam has huge extra credit.

Devito was ridiculous. I'm taking 2 math courses at the same time, with VERY similar work, and I'm getting an A in the other, a C- in Devito. Don't take his class. Very arbitrary, dry, and not helpful. NO PARTIAL CREDIT, even if its an addition mistake on your last step. Memorize all definitions, but watch out, it might not be the one he wants!

Typical day of class: Devito: (writes problem from book on whiteboard). "Ok. Solve it." (silence, bank stares) "Ok, here's step one." (scribble) "Now finish it up." This was seriosuly every day of class. Why did I love it? Because the problem he just solved will be number for number on the next exam. I had a 120% going into the final.

Simply a horrible teacher. Not very friendly or interesting. Try for another teacher. The subject matter is easy. Matrix are actually quite interesting, but he's not trying to teach you matrix. He only wants defenitions, which change from one class to another. Definitions are arbitrary and tailored to each book, but don't try telling him that.AVOID

Does not explain things effectively. Advice: find another teacher. All he does is write the definitions from the book which you could just get by reading. If you do stay w/ him: for tests memorize all definitions verbatum as u have to write them. For extra credit (up to 20 pts) u do have to know the concepts well. It's alot tho--keeps ur grade up!

His hand writing is hard to read and his personality is very dry. The subject matter is easy, he's a horrible grader. Don't expect partial credit. Try to avoid.

was expecting the class to be harder. teaches fairly well from what i heard from friends devito seemed to be the easist calc 2 teacher there was. gives lots of extra credit and even though you dont think so teaches every thing that will be on the final.

Told you what is on the exams and you were able to drop a test when I took the class. Didn't bother explaining the 'why' just the 'how'. Just glad I survived!

Tells the class whats on all the tests. Put some extra credit on the end of some of the tests effectivly putting a curve on the class. speaks clear english which is a big plus in the math dept. overall one of the better math prof at arizona.

Comment:

Fairly easy teacher. He speaks english clearly which is a plus. He tells the class exactly what's on tests which makes the class decently easy. Sometimes he has trouble explaining concepts, but otherwise he's a good teacher.
