Comment:

Dian was one of the most influential people in my life. She took a young 19 year old under her wing and guided me to a future career in education. I ended up taking every class that she taught. She eventually hired me as an assistant. Her unique gift as a professor and amazing life was taken from this world too soon. She is truly missed.

Comment:

Dian was the most inspriational teacher that I had during my educational career. Not only did she tailor assignments in accordance with my major, the work that I did in her claass eventually evolved into a senior thesis.Her classes definitely prepared me for upper division courses,and it is because of her that I decided to pursue a master's degree.

Had her class a few years ago. VERY hard teacher, and extremely intimidating. I ended up failing her class due to lack of attendance. But...from what I can remember, she has AWESOME fashion sense! I loved seeing what she would wear every day. FIERCE!!

At first she seemed very dry and boring, but she then started to gain a personality. She is fast talking and is a nut on essays, so if you hate to write dont take her class.She gets you involved by putting you into the picture, you puritians and you flappers etc.Hard grader. She wont be teaching this semester.

this professor talked just so she could hear her own voice. she constantly asked questions but would ignore students hands and continue on blabbering. and since all she did was ramble, it was hard to keep focused and really understand what was actually being taught. it was so irritating i dropped.

Prof. Self is charismatic,full of energy, and is a student advocate. She is extremely pleasant to speak with especially when you have questions about the materials. I enjoyed her class. Do the study guides,participate in class discussions, and read the book and these three things combined will pay off for you!!!

D.Self is one of the most interesting history professors i've had.do your study guides and participate in class.i think she is a tough grader though.i had good scores on all quizes,A on midterm, didnt miss class & participated in almost everything.i was realy learning a lot & enjoying the class.but this class was my lowest grade this semester :(

she is very passionate about her studies, and she opens your eyes to new ideas and thoughts. your midterm, final, and take home essay are straight from book..so read it. get involved in ALL participation/extra credit because that determines your grade in the end. always add something so any discussion, she loves it!

Tough class but very rewarding. Hardworking students were challenged and the lazy students thought they were being water-boarded. I learned more about US history in her women's history class then I have in all my other history classes combined. It should be noted, however; I enjoy the subject and I'm not lazy. She knows its tough and will assist.

For History of Cali, be creative! If she lets you do take-home quizzes, do them! spend a few hours on it, make sure it is a full 2+ pages of thoughtful and creative effort and you will likely score an A on those quizzes. I got a solid B in the class. Just do your work thoroughly like she asks. loved it! Best History class so far.

Please stay away if you can!!!! I'm an A student and have only one C and it's in her class. Expects you to know without explaining the material in order. Jumps from topic to topic. Thinks she's a princess or something. If you take her, you'll regret it just like I do.

I don't care what anyone says Dian is an amazing prof. She is very passionate and probably over qualified for this job. If you love or hate history, take her class. She is very helpful and doesn't make you feel stupid for stupid questions. She is really nice, unless you screw around in class, and personable if you need any help. TAKE HER!!!!

HORRIBLE. Droning. Info unorganized. Unclear. Questions on test are tricky. I'm an A student and had a VERY difficult time w/this class. Worst class I've taken. She tries too hard to get you to think & misses delivering info. Treats adults like kids. Way too stuck on herself. Plays favorites. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I guarantee you will regret it.

VERY HARD!!! Do not take her if you can avoid her. She expects you to know more than her. The book is very hard to follow and the only way she helps is by saying "Elaborate More." Too much writing. DO NOT TAKE HER. But she is very passionate about it.
