Dr. Gu is great for CS. Tough material. Lectures are mandatory. Book is useless besides for HW. Tests are more difficult than homework, so you MUST understand the concepts from homework and lecture if you want an A. She is very kind, and caring. Always available in office hours, and responsive to emails. An A is doable, but you will work for it.

Comment:

Do your HW, read your notes, study with others, ask questions, and be involved. Without these tips you wont pass her class or will struggle. She's not hard, just don't be lazy. She offers many opportunities for extra credit and her final this semester was not comprehensive and by doing that she allowed everyone to retake any test they did bad in.

I thought this class was very easy, but it was the last I needed for my minor. The first half is similar to the first half of Intro to Prob and Stats, and the second half is recursion (gets old really fast). Definitely much harder than Discrete 1 but should be easy to pass if you do the homework and know basic algebra. She's a lenient grader.

Had her for both Discrete I & II. Amazing professor. Tests can be tough but if you do the review and understand all of it, you'll be fine. HW not graded but generally matches quiz/exam material... but she spends some class time reviewing the hardest HW questions anyway. I never felt like going to her class was a chore.

I love this woman. Phenomenal professor. No complaints whatsoever. She is also known as Weizan Gu. Weekly quizes, 13, but takes top 10. Bonus point assignments. Her tests are harder than quizes by a decent amount, so do your HW thoroughly. 10/10, should run all math teaching standards in the world.

She is a great professor that actually teaches. There is a quiz every week except test weeks, drops 3 quizzes and gives extra credit. If you do the homework, you'll be ready for the quizzes and tests. Her teaching style is straight forward and she's always willing to help! I'm taking her for discrete II.

Dr. Gu is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. She teaches this material right the whole way through. I did not need to see her outside of class, because she did so well during the lectures. I retained almost everything learned from this class. Definitely a good professor.

I took Dr. Gu for Discrete Math II. The material can be difficult and requires a lot of study time, but Dr. Gu is very understanding and helpful to students with questions. She gives 1 quiz each week, then drops the lowest 3. Her exams are moderately difficult but many questions are based on the homework. I would highly recommend her overall.

Comment:

Calculus is hard for a lot of people but her class is not that challenging. DO THE HOMEWORK! she assigns a lot of it and it is never graded but I could do it all in about 3 hours the day before the quiz and you are guaranteed an A. Go to SLAC and do the test reviews she hands out. And even if you only do a little of the hwk, it helps a lot!

I took Dr. Gu for Disc Math II. She makes sure you understand material before moving on. She loves her job and is always willing to help. I highly recommend her.
