Comment:

Diana is a GREAT Professor! She is very helpful, understanding, kind and funny. I absolutely loved her class! She works with her students and listens to their concerns. The class was fun and we had a great time. I definitely recommend her as a Professor!!!

Comment:

Professor is highly unorganized and unclear about her grading criteria on essays. She also gets easily confused about what she is teaching. A few class periods turned into debates about grammar. She is a very nice person; however, she is not a great teacher. Class requirements included several quizzes, 2 essays, 2 tests, and a presentation.

Comment:

Professor Hicks is a pretty hard grader. You have to have solid English writing skills in order to get an A in this class. I had to work fairly hard and received an A-. There were 2 novels that were needed to be read and 3 essays total. The essays were the majority of your grade, but there were also discussion board questions and quizzes!

Don't disagree with her. If you contest her ideas or have an opinion that's not mainstream you will struggle. Meeting the requirements of an assignment will get you a D, expect to work your butt off. Had a paper reviewed by a graduate english professor who said it was excellent, the paper received a C-. Good luck with this one.

Ok teacher. Needs to prioritize with school instead of always traveling. Understanding about late work sometimes. Alot of reading of dumb literature and the "Beloved" novel which is extremely dumb.

Took this class online and finished with an A, but had to really work for it. Lots of reading, quizzes, discussion boards and writing. Used the WAC center often, but found it frustrating since a lot of the WAC instructors hadn't read the novel, plays or short stories assigned.

Not the best teacher. Often doesn't clarify what she is asking of her students. Also, has a lot of spelling and grammatical errors even though she is supposed to be an English teacher. Don't get me wrong, she knows what she is talking about most of the time but she should not be a teacher.

judging by these ratings she was a better teacher about 6 years ago. Now she has clearly prioritized her other responsibilities with the school and is constantly telling you how she needs to be at one event or another (loves to brag about her required travel). Instruction suffers greatly. Assignments are unclear, errors in almost every posting.

Yes Hicks is tough I busted my but to get this A-. You will have something due just about every class for the first four weeks. But she will help you and tell you how to meet her standards. The key in her class is to make every essay better then the last she will notice and reward improvment

She was very unhelpful in WAC, one day she would say my writing is really good and the next she just hates it and says that I do not deserve a good grade. Slight problem, she does not know how to correct the essay so it earns a good grade. Dont take her!!! Not helpful, rather a waste of time!!!

She is very unpredictable!!! One day she says that your writing is great, the next day she hates it! Come on lady decide! She isnt very helpful either when it comes to questions about writing. I would not recommend her because you never know how your class grade will turn out!

We wrote about lots of man-hating literature. She seemed to decide from the beginning what my grade was going to be. No matter how much I improved or worked on my writing I always got the same scores. This class was more of a rite of passage than a place to actually improve your skills. I didn't really learn anything. Quite frustrating.

Intimidating. Tough grader. She rarely gives A. Got discouraged after she gave me a C- in a paper that I spent a week working on, and made a lot of research. She didn't even explain why she did so. Got mad because before that she said it was a good essay. Only one absent, one late paper. Followed the format, did a lot of work , and still got a B-.

She is a horrible grader. I would definitely recommend to never take her. She is much more concerned on the locations of commas rather than the content of the essay. But if you want to write a perfect mechanically correct essay, then this is the class for you. Her grading is just ridiculous. Plus there is a different essay due everyday of class.
