Wonderful pianist and well-meaning, but I actually hated her teaching style. She gets in her "teacher mode" and talks a lot in a perpetually cheerful, condescending voice, but doesn't do much in terms of individualizing or really connecting with students to see what they need. She's on auto-pilot. I just needed her to be real with me. Frustrating.

For piano and non-piano majors alike, Dr. Birr's an amazing teacher! Though she can be very nit picky, her teaching style has helped me become a better musician concerning technique and artistry. Heartily recommend her!

She's so intelligent and helpful. Even though you're really bad at keyboard, she will teach you how to get better and it always works!

i guess she's a nice woman...or tries to be...but the subtle comments in reference to not practicing, the way she's condescending about everything, and what not makes her an extremely annoying woman

Good professor. Boring and unclear at times, but I feel that overall I have learned alot in the class. She is willing to meet with you for extra help. I have never seen her upset or angry, even when people slack off. Really knows her stuff. Can be annoying at times, treats the class like 1st graders

Comment:
Not a piano major, but I took her accompaniment class alongside the majors. She slipped and made a naive comment: "percussionists never deal with pitch". Correction- tuning timpani requires a better sense of pitch than playing a piano, Diane.
