Comment:

Lousy "professor". Absolutely pitiful. Avg. grade on the final exam was about a 27/50. Pretty much everyone failed because she likes to yell at students for asking questions. One kid asked a question on a chapter we learned a couple weeks before hand and she yelled at him asking why he asked that because she said it "had no relevance".

Overall nice person, would not recommend to anyone. Read all from lecture, skipped a lot of slides, often tried to cover two or more lectures in one class. Tried to cram information in, was not very effective.

Cheek is a terrible professor. She spends most of class speaking on unrelated topics rather than teach. She acts knowledgeable, yet when asked a question she always seems to avoid or dodge them. You will go over 100 slides a day on a boring powerpoint while she only talks about the pictures. Horrible overall

I really liked Professor Cheek, she was pretty great. Her class wasn't too hard, just go to class and read the notes, do the Mastering Bio too. Her class for me was an easy A and way better than taking the other options for Bio 2 here

bio2 This is a professor who want you to learn and requires you to learn. This will not be an easy A. have to try & HAVE to study all the material given. There are no short cuts. she will offer help individually. she curves plus drops the lowest test grade. just make sure you put forth the effort. very possible to do will you just have to try.

I will say, Professor Cheek is extremely intelligent and is wise. However, I feel as if she could've done a better job in fully engaging the whole class instead of reading off the PowerPoint slides. Other than that, make sure you utilize the handouts she gives you and the book extensively. She appreciates hard workers, NOT slackers or cheaters.

She's very smart and knows an immense amount about microbiology, but she can't relay it to her students. Lecture is like 30% of teaching and 70% of related topics. It's really hard to have to try and teach yourself everything. Would not take this class if she is teaching!

Professor Cheek is a great professor. She really knows the material and makes herself available to her students. Online assignments and quizzes really help you understand the material. If you expect to breeze through with little to no effort, it won't happen. It's a tough course and requires a lot of work, but you learn a lot.

Is she smart? Yes, the woman is a genius, but for biology 1, she flew threw the powerpoint and crammed as much in as she could. Lectures were awful. Also, mastering biology, the online portion of the class, HAS to be done. If you do it it will add about 7 points to your grade at the end of the semester. Finally, PARTICIPATION IS HUGE POINTS.

I don't understand why there are any negative reviews. Don't always expect to be a straight A student if you put forth no effort. It's refreshing to actually be taught by somebody with a brain who doesn't just read slides but brings forth their personal background in the subject into the classroom(she's worked in labs, etc.).

She is very nice and helpful when you need it. Her exams are extremely hard!!!!!! She also gives online quizzes and homework but the answers are all on google. I go home and have to teach myself everything anyhow.

She's a great professor who seems mean, but lightens up when you get to know her. This class is tough, but she loves her subject and you can see that from the way she teaches it. You have to put the work in, because she doesn't just give grades to people, but she'll answer any questions you have. Talk to her right after class, she's less busy then.

Diane Cheek is the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't answer questions and avoids the answers to questions you ask her. She teaches off a powerpoint and would not know anything if she didn't have that to fall back one. AVOID TAKING HER!

I had her for lab and lecture and she really isn't that bad. Yes- she is hard - and really hard to talk to at first but if you show her you are committed, she is willing to help. If you are a student who studies and puts in the time, you will be fine! Study her notes, do the homework, and in lab follow her guideline for the reports.
