Great and knowledgeable professor. Lectures are clear/organized and midterms, quizzes, and final are fairly straightforward. Garage Demos are very useful, too. Both her and Prof. Edinger are a power-duo for Bio 93. Great first college Bio course; highly recommend!

Pros: Entertaining, caring professor. Good grades are possible by doing all the homework and being attentive in class. Cons: Lots of deadlines for homework to keep track (easy points), VERY tricky tests that require analytical and application skills that most freshmen do not have. Overall: Would recommend taking O'Dowd, a good intro to college.

I truly enjoyed this class. As a biology major, I did not think it was possible to love biology even more than I already do, but Prof. O'Dowd & Edinger made it happen. The tests are challenging, but not impossible. It was the first time I had to apply and use the information I learned, rather than just memorize.

I absolutely loved her! I enjoyed coming to class every day because her lectures were so interesting. She does demos of harder concepts with volunteers from the class and has clicker questions to promote lecture engagement. For a class of almost 500 I didn't know that was possible. Tests were challenging, but take her class & you will learn!

BEST BEST! She makes BIO very exciting and fun, and it is only fun if it is being taught well Yes, the class is difficult, so read the BOOK and take advantage of the help provided! I thought her class was very, very hard. I only read textbooks before or after the lecture but my friend said details from her exam is almost based on the textbooks instead of her lecture. She is very enthusiastic, but her class, especially exams were very hard.

Professor O'Dowd is THE professor to take if you are a first year bio student. News flash to all incoming college kids, THIS STUFF IS HARD compared to HS. O'Dowd will test you to see if you really want to become a medical professional. She's absolutely brilliant and knows her stuff better than any educator i have ever met. Great lectures & demos!

Prof O'Dowd is AMAZING !Coming in as a first year, I was frightened. But she made it awesome. Because of her, she made me love bio even more and engage in applying and conceptualizing rather than just memorization. Her class isn't a straight-forward test. You must learn to apply and use the information you learn

One of my favorite professors! Dr. O'Dowd actually makes Bio interesting. She does clicker quizzes and demonstrations, so you're not just sitting through 50 min of her lecturing. The class itself can be a bit hard though. Make sure to keep up with lecture readings and rewatch her podcasts, which are really helpful. TAKE O'DOWD FOR BIO93!

She is the best bio teacher I've had in UCI. Very clear, concise and well-organized with her teaching. You'll learn a lot. She is a hard teacher but she is willing to help her students get the material. She truly cares about her students! Go to office hours!

I loved this class! It was the first Bio class I took at UCI and she made bio so interesting! She is difficult so be on top of your game and you can not slack off in the class! She makes you work hard but to your benefit. She is very smart and kind. I miss her class.

I hated Biology prior to taking Prof. O'Dowd. O'Dowd is super kind and intelligent and is really committed to making sure that students understand the material. Here in class demonstrations really help! Her tests are difficult! Don't expect to get away with just memorizing. You have to know how to apply what she teaches.

Shes's a super nice professor! But if you're not interested in Biology, this isn't a class for you. Good lectures and shows great examples to help you understand. Go to class, your discussions, and highly recommend to go to office hours if you don't understand something. Not too much work but not too little. Study HARD for the exams & you'll do ok!

She's a GREAT professor. She's very clear and knows how to communicate information. However, this is a really intense class. Tests are ridiculously hard. Absolutely no recall questions; you need to know every detailed complexity behind all the topics we go over because the questions always require you to think.
