She's as inquisitive of students' interests and insights as she is of the writers she assigned us to read. Demands participation and responds unsurprisingly to those who make an effort with greater attention. Encourages exploration and experiment.

I enjoyed this class! English is not my best subject but I surprisingly did okay. Readings are a little strange, but there are only 2 papers for the whole semester. Fairly easy class, attendance not mandatory.

Very challenging class, but also very rewarding for those who are willing to put in the effort. Excellent feedback on papers, open to all suggestions, and very respectful to students. Never a boring moment.

She picks favorites. This class has made me decide to avoid English for the rest of my degree. It was truly a terrible experience.

Not a fan of her class. Lectures hovered around readings without hitting any solid points, and readings were so vague that they basically necessitated further explanation. She is definitely brilliant, and has a good sense of humour, but her lectures are as unclear as the readings themselves. Then again, it was a class on Deleuzian literary theory..

The best English teacher I have ever had. She keeps the class interesting and her student attendance is very high. Her assignments are fun (easy marks). Very willing to help with your essay and gives great feedback. Overall, she is an outstanding teacher.

I am so glad I got a class with her, she is not lazy and takes an active approach in reaching out to students and getting students to work. Don't think you can coast in her class, be prepared to work. The knowledge you get from her is worth the effort. She's a treasure to the U of A.

She is definitely brilliant... but I absolutely hated the course and I know I wasn't the only person who was turned off English forever by it. My previous EAS and Phil courses were better pre-reqs than any English I had done, and I was not interested in the one philosophy we used to look at all the books. Sort of hit or miss that way.

At first I thought I should drop the class because there was quite a bit of modernism/modernity involved - not my thing at all. Glad I didn't. Dr. C challenged me to think differently about things, to look beyond the obvious. And in the end, my writing and thinking changed for the better. She is an awesome prof. Participation also helps your mark.

I know she definitly picked favourites, but I was one of her favourites, so it worked out good. She enjoys people who engage in her class, and if you do that from the start, you'll be on her fav list. Assignments were easy, and very interesting. There was much reading, but she's understandable if you're behind. :)

I didn't like the fact that Joyce's "Ulysses" was one of six novels in the required reading so I dropped the class. If you're willing to devote your life, at least for 4 months, to Modernism and the issues surrounding it, be my guest and take her class.Hopefully she'll pay your chiropractic bill from schlepping all those bohemian bohemoths around

Though her intellect is inspiring, I do agree that Dr. Chisholm's tendency towards aggrandizing theory (although theory is, in itself, a self-aggrandizing thing) and innumerable secondary references take away from its applicability in other courses. Her exams are similarly excessive and best completed under the influence of some performance-enhanc
