Dr. Gondola is one of my favorite professors I've had at IUPUI. You do have to work for your grade, but he is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help!

Prof Gondola is awesome, and yes you do have to work for your grade ( if you didn't what would be the point). Emails back almost instantly and grades pretty quickly. H432 we had 2 papers 1200 word minimum, 1 final paper 2500 word minimum, 1 group project, a mid-term (essays) and a final (essays).

didier's a pretty helpful guy. does have some subtle, not so subtle biases about the West. he definitely has an opinion and it helps if you stick to that. academically, his class is pretty relaxed, pretty simplified. he paints with a broad brush, gives you basics. nothing crazy. nice guy though. pretty down to earth.

Interesting, He expects you to attend lectures and read the reading assignments. Test questions come from both. He does give print a study guide listing questions that may be asked. Not all questions make it to the test but all the questions on the test are in the study guide.

If you're taking him for an upper level course, figure out what he wants to hear and write it. If he disagrees with your stance on an issue he'll dock points. He's really tough on paper grades and will ask things on the test that you never covered in class or readings. Other than his personal bias he's a decent teacher. I learned a lot.

No matter how hard you work, plan on a bad grade. LOTS of material on quizzes and tests will never be in the text or lecture, and barely existent even on the web. Comments on research papers make no sense, b/c he clearly doesn't read them, just skims. Makes no effort to learn names or get to know anyone.

He is a really great teacher. He knows what he is talking about and he makes the class interesting. You do have to put some work in though. The tests were a little difficult and he puts a lot into grading papers, but if you at least try you will be fine. He is flexible and if you are willing to do some work then I would highly recommend him.
