He often lectures for only 40-60 mins in a 3 hr class (90 mins max). Plays movies for the rest of the class EVERY class, and he doesn't even stay to finish the movies several times. He rambles on about personal stories, and shows political bias. Replacement for paper was to support his wife's political campaign. Exams were specific. Ridiculous.

Professor Vigil takes so many extra steps to help students succeed and if you're struggling, he'll help you. You just need to communicate with him. His research is interesting, and that's mostly what you'll be reading about. The class is VERY reading intensive. The lectures are quick, but you can get lost easily if you don't pay attention.

He is really a knowledgeable and great professor. You can tell he's so passionate to his research and really trying to help his student. decide to take his class next quarter too. You WILL read a lot, and those reading mainly wrote by professor Vigil himself, but not boring at all. Take his class and attend class you wont regret!

Watched a film every week. Majority of them are in black and white. Most of the films can be seen online, so I did not go to a majority of the class sessions. There will be online readings accompanied with the films. I suggest that you don't procrastinate on the readings because it's pretty dense material. Tests are curved.

Vigil lectures a bit, and then a majority of the time he shows a movie. It's an educational movie so don't be expected to be entertained all the time. Curves tests generously if he sees that a majority of the students did not do so well. Book required to pass, but most of the times the books are cheap.

He's a really nice and smart professor. However, I was really disappointed that he showed a movie every class. Also, he only lectured for an hour at most in a three hour class and it's hard to tell where stories stop and lecture material begins.

This class was really boring. He is a really nice person to talk to, however it's very hard to take notes in the lecture because he goes off the subject so much. Lots of movies - available on you tube too. You are pretty much on your own with the book, study guide helps but he'll add extra on it too.

Exams weren't hard, gives study guides, showed lots of movies (which are on exams), but I didn't learn anything in this class and I was just bored out of my mind. He does dismiss early every class. Get to know the TA if you're concerned about your grade, forget about him.

DON'T TAKE THIS MAN. He doesn't teach at all, you have to teach yourself the material. The reading is a lot. He lectures for like 20 mins, but goes off topic for about 19 of them. His lectures are useless for exams. There are 2 papers due but they were graded really easily (by TA). The TA basically runs the class, not him. His class is boring

A wonderful professor who engages students during lectures and course content. He has a wealth of knowledge from his years in academia and life experiences. He may share some personal life stories but only to further explain core content. Entertaining, enjoyably, and good teacher

Excellent Professor. I person you can call your mentor and will guide you into your future career ambitions. Excellent material but MUST have a keen eye and open mind to follow his stories. The stories are ALWAYS relevant to the course material.

Previous comments pretty much sum up this Prof. 12pg research paper assigned during 6wk course but is leniently graded. Multiple choice final is tricky. Prof. spends more time off topic and showing movies than reviewing testable material. Not at all recommended.

Took him for a crime film class. Supposed to be easy, just watching movies in class with a short lecture, doing readings at home, and having only a multiple-choice midterm and final! However, the exams are generally difficult, since he picks and chooses very minute details in the readings. Still, he chose some very entertaining and intense movies.

You WILL learn a lot in Professor Vigil's class! However, it is definitely NOT an easy A. He brings great, real world experience during his lectures. He uses very little slides though so you have to take good notes. He weighs the paper more heavily than the tests, so make sure you put most of your effort there.

I had Vigil for C20 Crime and Cinema. He didn't do much lecturing in the class, all we really did was just watch movies. He seemed like a nice, easy going guy and was funny and interesting. The class was pretty easy, if you just did all the readings (there are only 10) and just watched the movies you can get an easy A.

Didn't learn a single thing in this class! all he does is talk about his stories and rambles on about partying and corn tortillas that he likes. He spends the last 3 min of class actually trying to get to the point (but never does) Had to teach myself everything because lectures are pointless! Take this class if you only want to learn on your own.

Nice guy, but teaches you NOTHING. Makes you buy his books and lecture attendance is mandatory because he takes role. I got good grades on midterm/essay BUT you basically have to teach yourself ALL the material by reading the books! In class he gets WAY off topic (talks about himself) 95% of the time and his attempts to teach material are horrible.
