Never gave any rating before, but Professor Ghosal is one of the best you can wish for. He tried to get students to be interested in networking and understand the fundamentals by giving lectures on the chalkboard. I'm a network engineer now and it all comes from his lectures and inspiration. Read the book if you want to know more btw.

Comment:
The expectations for what students needed to know was very unclear. The exams were very confusing and had many things that were not covered well in class. There not many resources, there was no textbook, there were lecture notes, however, as the quarter went on they lowered in quality, . Ghosal is a nice guy though, so he does grade generously

I'm not the smartest student, but I got an A. How? Go to lecture, read the chapters before class and after, go the homework (google and discussion is your friend), midterm is homework and questions from readings. Lots of errors on his hw solutions though.

Lectures are clear. No textbook is used this quarter so just study the lecture notes and homeworks. Not responsive on Piazza but helpful during office hours. In the end he curved a lot.

Ghosal doesnt answer Piazza and barely replies on emails, unfortunately, this quarter his TAs did the exact same thing. Late HW grades (hw5 graded after finals!) and no communication. Project was only worth 5% which is unreasonable considering the time spent on it! can work in groups of 2, but i did it alone. Easy class made difficult by prof.

Not a good lecturer, REALLY unorganized. NEVER response on piazza or email. If he decides not to response, then I really don't know what's the point of having it. HW grades post really late. The material of class is easy to understand, but he is really a bad professor, but the class is really easy.

Professor Ghosal is one of the best professors in the Computer Science department. Tests and homework can be difficult, but he is always striving to improve his teaching ability in every way possible. His lectures are on point, delivered in the voice of a dusky angel. He's an inspiration, an absolute dream.

Comment:
Switched to no textbook, so the lecture was not very well structured. Homework was fair, but on exams he included material we hadn't practiced / gotten feedback on. He's very helpful in office hours (even after hours), but not responsive on Piazza. Also, grades came back very slowly which made it hard to study effectively.

Comment:
Ghosal is hard to follow in lectures, often rambling. Hard to read handwriting. Often changes deadlines/numbers in problems without changing it on the actual homework file. Some of the material will not be found in the textbook, so you actually have to understand the lectures. Midterm was representative of hw. Google is your friend in this class.

Comment:
Ghosal didn't have a textbook this quarter, making lectures important. Sadly, his lectures are very dry, w/ him rushing thru info and writing formulas on the chalkboard, some of which are illegible. HW and the project are full of typos, poorly worded, and tedious. TAs care too much about notation and take forever to grade. Only for strong of heart

Ghosal decided to teach 132 without a textbook this quarter, so lecture attendance was crucial. Everything he told us was clear and interesting (as far as prob & stats go). The homework and test materials were all completely representative of the topics covered in lecture. Definitely would take the class again.

Comment:
He is a good professor in that he will explain a concept and give examples until everyone in the class understands it. The HWs are not that hard and if you put in the time you will definitely understand the material. The R code is very easy to pick up and not a big part of the course. Do the HWs and review examples in class and you'll be fine!

Lectures were good and clear. He was very approachable and always welcomed questions. If he wasn't sure about a question, he'd have it by next class for sure. He really cares about his students and is always looking to improve his teaching style. His expectations are fair and doable. I enjoyed & learned a lot, would retake :) Keep teaching!

Ghosal was the best professor I had this quarter. He genuinely cares for his students and you can learn a lot from his lectures. He is very active on Piazza and is open to helping his students understand the topics. Throughout the quarter he asks the class for constructive feedback on his teaching style, which shows how much he cares about us.

You can see how much Prof. Ghosal loves to teach in class. He gets very into the topic and just loses track of time, but he explains the material very well! He's also super helpful during office hours. Some of the things that he teaches in lecture aren't always in the book, so if you skip class, remember to grab notes from a friend. Amazing prof!

Dipak is bae! 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 project with 2 parts, and 6 homeworks. Homeworks. He is a good grader(or his TAs were). R programming is not that bad. He curves at the end and he gives extra boost if you have improved from midterm to final(in addition to curve). He is a great teacher and the class is acceptable as far as easiness.

He wants you to really understand the material, so he provides a valid and fresh perspective of it. He goes to great extents in helping his students. His explanation of the concepts were easy to follow through, and you learned a lot on how to do the homework from attending lecture.

This was a challenging course. Most likely because I've never programmed before. Prof Ghosal was a good professor. I actually didn't mind going to lecture. The homework was pretty time consuming, however. So make sure you have enough time in your schedule to devote to this class.
