Comment:

Good teacher but its a lot of lecture. All you have to do is listen and take notes during class and you pass. Tests are extremely easy if you study or pay attention. If you don't, your screwed. There are only 4 grades for the class. Exam 1-3 and a weekly Journal (Graded at the end). Get The book it makes studying for the exams a breeze.

I took his honors history course, and he was great. A very old-fashioned guy who likes to tell stories but explains material very well. Tests and weekly journals were graded very hard, but made me work that much harder for a good grade. I loved his class and would take another if he was still teaching at Harford!

Terrible. I am an "A" student, and he gave me a "C." His notes are very scattered. He just writes wherever he wants to on the whiteboard. His tests are ridiculously difficult, even though he gives them to you a week beforehand. You have to memorize everything, even the little details. His grading makes no sense. Do not take unless you like stress.

I hated this class it was awful, the first day it doesn't seem so bad, but it was awful. Yes he gives you a copy of the test a week before you take it but he grades it that much harder because you've had a week to study. He lectures the whole time and draws insane notes on the board that do not make any sense I wanted to die.

Dr. Avery is a nice guy and his classes are pretty easy (I've taken two). You don't need to come to class if you don't want to and still get an A. His assignments won't stress you out too much and he's always willing to help you at any time.

He loves when he teaches and I learned a lot. I enjoyed his class for the most part, although it can get really boring and he almost never let out early and sometimes even ran late. He's willing to help- take advantage of it. Be prepared to work though. Journals every class and 3 tests (you get them a week ahead of time to study from though.)

Dr. Avery is a very enthusiastic teacher with a definite charisma for his classes. His HIST 104 is definitely challenging but he is a fair, honest and respectable teacher who always looks out for his students. P.S. It helps if you are also a History major!

He is a very knowledgeable teacher. He loves what he teaches and has very dry humor. Lectures take all period. He enjoys class discussion. Takes notes on the board so you can copy them down. Class is very straight forward 3 tests, journals due at the end of the semester, dont put them off. I have over 20 essays to do in 9 days. =(

Tough but fair teacher! Good sense of humor and absolutely helpful. The reading assignments and journals are important. Grades were 3 tests which you got in advance and 1 final project comprised of all the journals you did throughout the semester.

Boring most of the time but he has a good sense of humor and is dry but EXTREMELY knowledgeable. He is extremely picky about what he wants on his tests and even knocked off points once for me when I used a synonym of a word he wanted instead of the word. His tests aren't all that difficult if you read the chapters and listen in listen in class.

Excellent professor, I would and am going to take him again!! He has a wonderful dry humor, is very interested in what he teaches, kind and cares about his students and they're wellbeing!
