Comment:
3 Tests, that's it. Each test is manageable, as the class is not content heavy. He would rather you understand the main concepts. Tests are identification based- who, what. why matters, etc. DO the readings (1 hour a week, maybe) and go to class. You'll get an A.

Overall great teacher! Looked forward to going to class everyday. Tests were essay format but he tells you what will be on the exams and you choose which questions you want to answer. Can't wait to take another class from him in the future!

He gives no lecture outlines, notes, or other helpful materials. The required reading material was only tested in the first test. He does not respond to emails. If you ask for help, he may berate and belittle you. If you are going to take his class, buy a recorder and record his lectures so you can listen to them later to study.

I took him during a kentucky politics immersion/intern program. really liked him, very funny, knowledgeable. the A just required some study, pretty easy for a 400 level course.

While he does jump around and get off topic, he is a great teacher. He will help you if you need it, he will work with you if you put forth the effort to do the work. Classes are way boring, but are the best way yo learn the material

He is a teacher you will either hate or love. Attendance is not required, but recommended. He gives complete essay tests, but the essays are fairly easy to guess and follow a pattern, usually mostly from notes and one or two from the book. These essays are your only grade, so some people cannot handle that and fail. Others take him 5 or 6 times

Do yourself a favor and dont take him. he is an extremely intelligent man, who must think that his students have robotic like comprehension skills and the minds of political science geniuses. guess what..WE Dont!! Someone needs to tell this man that no one knows what the hell hes talking about

Gross' biggest weakness is his lecture format - it's often difficult to follow. He gives no outlines, neither verbal or written, to help people follow his sketchy lectures. However, this guy knows his stuff. He knows both sides of political topics, and he'll often play devil's advocate. He is open to help you during his office hours with any confusion you may have. His tests are not impossible, but they do require studying of class notes and keeping up with the required readings.

It is the most boring class that you will ever sit through. He is very monotoned and skips around through the chapters making it very difficult for you to follow and understand.
