Ryan was probably one of the best professors I''ve had. I barely passed chem1001 but managed to get an AB in chem 1002 with him. Lectures can be boring but the exams are pretty easy if you study off of the practice exams. Questions on exam wont be the same but they will be similar so if you understand the practice tests you''ll do fine on the exam.

I would avoid this professor because he fails to help. I went in to office hours multiple times and he left me feeling helpless. He is very indirect in his lectures and gets sidetracked very often. I attended class for every single lecture and only attained a B/C.

What these people are saying is totally false. Dr. Ryan is one of the best teachers I had at MU. He posts practice tests online, yeah the questions aren't exactly the same but seriously, what do you expect? Its a college class. If you put in the work, it is an easy A.

Ryan was nice, but this was the most boring class I have ever taken in my life. You teach yourself. Tests were based on the practice exams posted online. Getting an A is only possible if you are willing to give up your social life to study for a few hours every night of the week. A tutor is very much recommended. Overall, avoid if possible.

This guy really loves what he teaches. He also connects chemistry to events in history, etc. to make class a little less boring. Chemistry is hard and it's boring, but his tests were exactly like practice tests he gave us so I thought his class was very reasonable.

He is a very poor professor. He provides no resources for students to use, and his lectures provide no information relevant to exams. He does not like students, and practice exams are hit or miss. You will not learn any chemical principles that he tries to get you to "understand", and will be penalized despite the amount of work you put in.

Test consists of 20 numbers. The last one is the craziest one (theory) which will have never been given in the previous tests. There is no "credit" for wrong answer which means that if you answer wrong, it will simply get 0. He teaches by repeating the same questions, and saying his favorite quote "quiet please"

Most boring man ever. Please count the number of times that he says "Quiet please" haha. He treats you guys like 5th graders. Not that good explaining thigs and same goes for the TAs. My advice to get a good grade, study the online exams, go to class, go to discussion (gets u extra 9 percentage points total), and dont skip on labs

I went to Dr. Ryan with my head in my hands over a terrible grade I received on an exam. Not only are his yellow teeth one of the creepiest sights I have ever seen, but he just snickered about how I was "memorizing" the material. Furthermore, he gave a standardized exam for the final. It was terrible and people burst into tears. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Dr. Ryan is extremely helpful. His exams are exactly like the practice ones he posts online, if you study them and understand them you will do great. You need to go to class because it is part of your grade. It is not Dr. Ryan who is a hard teacher, it is just that chemistry is hard! I recommend taking him, you will understand what you learn!

Dr. Ryan gives easy practice exams online. Which did not relate very well to the ones i receieved. I just walked out of my final exam (he provides 3 practices). I wasted an entire weekend studying for my grade. I had an 86 going into the final (with no curve), spent 20 hours studying, and I hadn't seen at least 1/4 of the problems. AVOID AVOIDAVOID

Mostly boring lecture, but he's a nice guy and you can tell he really loves chemistry. You have to pay attention in lecture, but for the most part it's not a hard class at all. He gives 3 past exams for every exam you have in the semester, and if you make a stupid stupid mistake that can you can show him he'll usually give you points back. Not horrible.

Dr. Ryan is horrible. I am so bad at chemistry and this class made me switch majors and colleges. Nothing we learn relates to the tests and his chem lab is even worse. Chemistry will be the death of me...

Dr. Ryan is not a very good teacher at all. Lectures get off topic insanely fast, and half the reason i could stay awake was because I had fun watching other people fall alseep. His tests are incredibly easy compared to the other teachers, however. Take him with tutoring is highly recommended. funny when he says: Q-q-q-Quiet please!

Yes. Dr. Ryan doesn't teach well. But his class is the Easiest! Tests are almost identical to the past exams he posts. I just studied those and got A on chemistry.

Tests are very straightforward. He puts practice tests online and follows them closely. Although the material isn't that difficult, he isn't the best at explaining, so if you're not familiar with chemistry, get a tutor. The book is your friend.

Oh Dr. Ryan. He's not that horrible. Yes it's true that he wears a microphone and he is extremely monotone, but his tests are manageable; not easy, but manageable. I never took chem prior to his class, and I'll probably end up with a B for the semester. Don't be afraid to ask questions and you will do fine. Oh yeah, AVOID VAUGHN AUSMAN HE'S EVIL.

Dr. Ryan is a diffucult professor for incoming freshmen to take. He wears a microphone, which only makes his monotone voice louder. He gives lots of examples, but doesn't explain himself well. Not much help outside of class, makes you feel stupid for asking questions. I advise you to avoid his class, if possible.

Comment:
This class is unnecessarily difficult. Dr. Ryan complicates simple subjects. He is not an approachable professor. The tests do not cover the material that the class has covered since last test and overall, this class makes life more difficult than it needs to be. If you have the choice, do not take Dr. Ryan for chemistry.
