Comment:

I learned many things from Dr. Michie dating back to 1981. The most profound teaching was that conflict breeds opportunity. That in and of itself has helped me too many times over the years. I practiced that just today. Thanks Don!

Comment:

Dr. Michie is a very difficult instructor if you are not prepared for it. He provides an option to purchase notes but I did not, I didn't buy the book either. He gives insight to the real life business world and cares about the students putting effort. He gave several opportunities for extra credit. Nonetheless his tests are rough.

Dr. Michie is a very interesting man with a lot to teach, I was afraid of taking him after reading the reviews here, but I actually really enjoyed his class, and I feel like I really learned a lot from it. However, you do need to work for your grade, read the book. Plus he gives a bunch of extra credit assignements that really help.

He talks about his personal life and how he is so successful and you will not succeed. Lectures are his stories of how successful he is and you'll see a powerpoint slide containing material from the book for about 5 minutes. Marketing majors he's the only one that teaches this class. Possibly the worst professor of all time.

Dr. Donald Michie talks more about his personal life and achievements than actually teaching the material in the book. He flashes right through the powerpoint slides with no real depth into any topic. I recommend reading the book. The tests include multiple choice and application questions.

This professor does not care if you pass or not. He has no interest in helping students and just cares about what HE knows. He will point out the fact that you know nothing and he knows everything and his lectures are pointless. Do not take this professor if you want to learn or pass the class.

Dr. Michie knows a whole lot of things about strategic Marketing, but for intro to MKT it is the worst class i have ever taken. Even a decimal will affect your grade by a lot. He gave a bunch of extra-credit and still, not even 15% of the class passed.

I took it for principles of marketing, and is the worst decision I have ever made, I wanted to drop the class but my employment didn't let me. Difficult exams, only two or three topics of actual principles of marketing . You have to buy the two book in order to pass, and take advantage of every extra credit possible. KNOW FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING

This is the most difficult class I ever have, the exams are very hard and the practicums are way difficult, he focus too much on financial statements than marketing even when the syllabus do not state anything about financial statements, he use a handout that is not organize, do not take this class with him.

He is a nice man, but he is a sub par professor to say the least. He doesn't teach, he expects you to learn everything on your own, he loses papers, his grading system is flawed, and there is so much emphasis on practicums that you aren't learning anything else. He does give curves, but they are not worth the headache. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM.

Professor Michie is hard don't get me wrong but he's a very intelligent man. He makes you earn your grade which most professors hardly teach you anything and he does, granted sometimes its off topic, but all he wants you to understand is that it's important to have the marketing skill set and develop it. His tests are hard though!

Really hard teacher. He knows so much about marketing and many other topics, but he is so hard. Aside from buying the textbook, you also have to a handbook. He lectures outside of the book, but his tests are based on just the book, so careful. Overall, not so good on the testing and grading, but very good on the teaching.

READER BEWARE, do not take 4395 in summer take it with the other professor. Michie does not teach from any text and the material covered in class has not been covered in any other marketing class. This makes marketing dept look bad as well as other professors. DROP CLASS

Such a difficult teacher yet it i have learned more in his class than any other class at UTEP. He cares that you care about your grade. I got a 54 on my 1st exam & went to meet with him and he went over the exam and told me to keep at it and to READ THE BOOK and i did just that and was close to getting an A. He teaches like a class should be taught
