I would most definitely recommend Professor Quartert, I loved his class, learned a whole lot, overall hes just a great guy. He's actually really famous for his Ottoman studies, and he only teaches every 2 years i think. The problem is TA's grade everything, so your grade will be dependent on your TA. Overall though, take his class.

I highly suggest taking one of his classes. Quataert is the nicest teacher on campus, & is especially respectful. He lectures then devotes the last 20mins of class for questions. Despite his opinions, he remains objective when teaching & clearly states fact 7 opinion LECTURES ARE MANDATORY, readings are somewhat helpful. All around a great guy

He was an amazing profesor. tests are fair and the Ta's were very helpful. Must do the readings and participate in discussions, but that won't be a problem because the material is very interesting.

I took a second class. I feel empowered to rate him again. He is the best Professor I have met so far, and I have taken some , trust me. He has a charisma that makes you love his subject even if you did not care before. He is not diving thing into two sides, but rather give diversiy. I wish I would take more classes with him. He made me love Histor

Classes like this is why we go to college. He will change what you think you know, about the middle east. Classes are clear but be prepared for your hand to hurt from all the notes you take. Some of the things you learn are unbelievable. Great Class. But warning to slackers you will have to do some work for a good grade.

He's a really phenomenal teacher and really knows the material. Your grade really depends on your TA though and what kind of grader they are, and TA's are always kind of a crap shoot.

I found this class to be very fascinating and I think he taught it in a fair and interesting manner. However, if you refuse to come with an open-mind you will learn absolutely nothing and annoy everyone else in class. Like he said at the beginning of the class, forget what your parents said, and learn the material yourself.

Not a smart man by any means. However, he is a good teacher. He also makes class more interesting than most history teacher. Incosistent in how hard he grades tests. Is likey to ask a question about a small detail you would not expect to be on the quiz. Reading is important if you want a good grade.

Tests are straightfoward, he gives you the words in which you are to define. The essays are relatively broad and you have to make sure you are answering what he is asking. Takes a more Pro-arab stance because he feels we only see the Pro-USA side. Tries to speak politically correct that he stops himself sometimes. Great guy and helpful.

Very Very liberal. Comes off as anti-America, anti-Israel. Only gives one side of the story, the pro-Arab nation side. If you are pro-America, pro-Israel, etc. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

I am glad that this is finally over. His tests were not fair. They are designed for an hour and a half and he gives only one hour. The TAs advice for that is sacrifice IDs for the Essay or vice versa. For god sakes make the test shorter or something.

This is an amazing class because he argues the truth in the Middle East, not the bs that you see in the media. Some may argue that he is anti-semitic or anti Israel. When in reality he just wants justice for Palestinians. He speaks the truth and backs himeself up with FACTS in history.

Tries to know his students in such a large class. Knows a lot about the middle east. However you don't know what's important for exam until it's too late. His tests are not very fair. If you are not Middle Eastern, you would be getting Cs. He always picks the hard IDs and his essays topics are very vague.
