Both the TA Scarcelli and Professor Rothchild were extremely informative and impressive. The class is very straightforward, no powerpoint- but lectures organized nicely. Report is assigned in syllabus. All essay test, sample exams pretty similar to actual tests. I found the grading pretty fair. I like that he really humble too.

No powerpoint, no study guide, 50% final, only lecture (so go to class), you get all the old test from prior midterms and finals, but you midterm and final will be different. THis may be for you, but its not for me.

Rothchild is a better author than speaker (his books are really well written, but he speaks at a slightly slow pace -- a minor issue really). He is very affable and approachable, and is not aloof at all. His TA, M. Scarcelli, was also impressive in section, adding a slightly different perspective to the proceedings.

I loved Prof. Rothchild and his TA Nik. They were so nice and easy to approach. Nik doesn't think any of your questions are stupid, but Rothchild might. I got an A, but I learned so much about Africa's relationship with West AND I finally wrote a really great paper. Encourages you to ask questions, and, best of all, he answers them clearly!!!

Great teacher...he is one of the smartest teachers you will ever meet. He has a great example for everything he talks about in class. Lectures are super clear and he always stays on topic. Doesn't joke around much, just gets the information across to you through interesting lectures. Highly recommended you take at least one class with him.

I love Donald! He is so sweet and so incredibaly knowledegable. He understands the students needs while also making sure you really learn the material. The class is challenging but well worth it all, and the exams and papers are fairly graded. I think he is my favorite professor at Davis, and this was definitely my favorite class!

Powerful, interesting, and worthwhile prof. Not terribly accesible himself, but always had the easiest grading TA. Was overly impressed with papers that got turned in. Still, he changed my focus in the field and this course is the reason I'm in grad school for conflict resolution. Amazing!

OMG!! His reader was the most unorganized thing I have ever had to navigate my way through. He repeates himself a lot in class, he has a lot of stories to tell about living in Africa but he never tells them....the reading was a waste of time imo.

His lectures are interesting. I think he gives a lot of latitude to his TA on grading, so the easiness of the class is heavily dependent on who you get for your TA. I had Nick, and I didn't find him to be especially kind.
