Professor Tannenbaum makes you buy a textbook that he wrote for the class. Any opinions that you have better be in alignment with those that the he espouses in his book or you are considered wrong. His directions for assignments are difficult to understand as he tends to ramble. He also assigned a 20 page paper two days before it was due.

My first class at Gettysburg College, September 1982, was an 8 am class, taught by Dr Tannenbaum. The night before, I read the first 50 pages of Plato's Republic. He was engaging, and, got me interested in something different than math and science, like high school. I never became a political science major---I was a philosophy major.

Tannenbaum is a low key professor. He expects you to read the material closely and in-depth. And yes, he's studied Marx, as any well educated person should. He doesn't indoctrinate but exposes students to a diversity of different thoughts.

POL102 was an odd experience for me. Early on in the class, I received rather poor grades (ranging from C- to B+) on most assignments. However, if you participate frequently and take an active interest in the class, he will reward you. I found that I almost inadvertently liked the professor, simply because his class was so hands off.

Dangerous prof, took marism in 1988, thinking of sending my kid here but seeing he's still on faculty makes me think five times before cutting a check.

I definately wouldn't say he is easy, but all you have to do is read the book. He sometimes picks out random things to test you on, but over all its not hard. With average work you can get a a-/b+..He is extremely boring so I would probably not take him if you don't have to

One of the easier classes I've taken at Gettysburg. All he wants is for you to read his textbook and spit the information right back. Each test is exactly the same and he even gives a practice test! If you read and understand the textbook, you simply can't get less than an A. He's boring, but he's a nice guy who wants students to do well.

T-baum is not easy and he is not really warm to his students but he is an amazing mind- he really knows his subject and you can learn a lot from him. I took his class 5 years ago and still use the knowledge that I gained from his class.

Tannenbaum is smart, but I agree that he's a bit standoffish to students. You can learn alot from his knowledge of the great philosophers just don't expect to be coddled.

His class is generally well-organized and I learned a lot. If you pay attention in class and study a little, the readings are not absolutely necessary, as his lectures basically contain the same words as his book. The class really isn't as much work as it seems, and I found in-class discussions to be generally interesting. Tannenbaum is a good guy.

I learned so much about political thought and all of the philosophers in this class. However, he was useless in terms of offering extra help, quite bitter towards students, and his tests were rather hard. If you are genuinely interested in the subject and want to learn, take this class. If you are quiet, and don't participate often, you're screwed.

Final Exam is basically regurgitating everything you've learned in the class. Tests are long essay's. Smart guy, tough professor. Don't expect any higher than an A-/B+.

I've never met a person who likes the sound of their own voice so much. Good class, a lot of work. Do not take it unless it's to fulfill a polysci requirement for the major. Personally I did. But it would not be a good time for anyone looking to fulfill a social/humanities requirement.
