Ugh. Historiography is boring at times, but she made it dreadful all of the time. She passed out a phtotocopied packet of historians and had us read aloud. When we didn't finish, I read it at home, only to have her start where we left off the next class. Out loud. Like third graders. From the 1950's. Horrible.

I took several history classes with Dr. McCaffrey in the late 1980s. She was one of the most engaging and knowledgeable professors I had at Providence College. Her effective use of humor made topics within the Dark Ages palatable and even exciting, especially to a non-history major. She is easily my inspiration for pursuing a PhD in my 40s. Cheers.

Dr. McCaffrey is very unique. At first I was unsure if I liked my intro to history class but as you get to know her she's hilarious. She doesn't really get mad and doesn't give a ton of work, just make you do well when you do get work. Talk to her after class, she's wicked cool.

Comment:
Dr. McCaffrey isn't really "difficult" for seminar b/c of her tendencies to ALWAYS stray from the subject matter. Lectures were painfully boring, never referred to the text, always had her own outline highlighting menial details. Never returned final paper/quizzes etc. took points off on exams for not writing exact definitions from books

If you attend class you will do fine. Pay attention in lecture and you will not have to do any of the required readings. Do not expect any of your work, essays, quizzes, etc., back in a timely manner. Very dry sense of humor, which was quite entertaining.

Dr. McCaffrey is an extremely knowledgable and encouraging professor. She is the epitome of what a History professor should be. Her coursework is intense and does require a heavy amount of reading. It requires you to BE an historian.

Dr. McCaffrey is extremely smart and a fair grader. Pay attention, take good notes and show up for class and you will get a good grade. She makes learning history fun and her NY accent only adds to the fun. However, some of texts are old and hard to read.

I've taken 3 classes so far with Dr. McCaffrey and I really like her. Her lectures are detailed, she's pretty funny and extremely knowledgeable. Quite a bit of reading, not much writing. The exams are very detailed (choice of take-home or in-class). You must take good notes.

"Dr" McCaffrey says that the worst thing you can call an historian is sloppy. How ironic that she is herself the epitomy of sloppy.

This woman is the most worthless professor in the history department. If you like to read aloud and memorize trivial facts that are irrelevant and off-topic to the focus of the course, then look no further. Some students have said she is knowledgeable. They must also be clueless; all she does is hand out packets and have the class read them.

She is one of the best teachers ive ever had. Her tests are hard and you need to study for them but thats really it. Shes lenient when it comes to papers, which keeps your grade up. Shes interesting in class and makes boring parts bearable. I'd recommend her to anyone seriously interested in history.

Admittedly a very nice person, she leans much too heavily on reading aloud in class and exaggerates the facts FAR too much to be considered a real historian. Often biased. Quizzes are hard and the objective portions of exams are truly unwarranted and unfair for undergrad. However, she grades easy on essays/papers. Perpetually late. Lectures subpar.

Incredibly nice and wicked funny, she knows her stuff and throws in great anecdotes that make class fly. Her tests are impossible as are her quizzes, but she appreciates effort especially if you get to know her. She's a great resource for anything at PC, she's been here forever. Take her class, but make sure you have an easy one to counteract.

Great professor. Easy grader at the graduate level. Got an A- without reading the assigned material. I did have to buy the book though. Lectures are top notch, mixed with intelligent humor. Almost made 4 hour classes bearable.
