Dorit is too annoying to be true. Academically, she is totally committed to her own rigid beliefs.

Tough but fair, and a great resource. Doesn't exude sunshine and excitement from every pore as some reviewers seem to want, but she is committed to educating her students and challenging them in ways that other professors do not. Only boring if you're not interested in the subject matter. If you are, she's a wealth of knowledge and a great prof.

I wish she was not teaching an introductory course, her course materials were way too heavy for that level. And at times she can be excessively bossy and self-righteous.

I am not too concerned with her toughness and occasional rudeness, the real problem with her teaching is that she is not open to different ideas and perspectives and she is firmly attached to old school film theory.

She is incomprehensible, rude and intimidating. She has zero tolerance for different point of views and she gets upset if you challenge her beliefs.

Comment:
Her class is based mostly on the 1970's film theory and feminist writings, which is not a bad thing at all, however there is a big problem as we don't live in the 1970's now. I mean film theorists and feminists continued to produce academic work since that time but you can't find any of it in Dorit's course.

If you are looking for an easy course, you should stay away from Dorit. If you are really interested in film and media analysis and ready to study hard, then Dorit is great.

Dorit is indeed tough and her classes are typically pretty demanding, but she is also extremely helpful if approached individually. And her expertise on film theory and film production would be very helpful for people who are planning to attend graduate school.

Dorit is knowledgable in film theory but she is indeed bad as a teacher and lecturer. Plus, she is very very authoritariandictatorial in classroom to the point that you might start feeling as if you signed up for the military service rather than university education.

Comment:
Having Dorit was a horrible introduction to Queen's Film. I came into Queen's set on at least minoring in film, an idea that I almost completely abandoned after the first month with her. Thankfully I had Clarke Mackey 2nd semester to restore my faith in the program. Probably an interesting international film teacher, but awful for a intro course

Comment:
The material of the course would seem alright except for the layout of FIlm 110 and her horrible teaching. Ten question multiple choice quizzes are an inappropriate way to test the material. I gave up on reading and watching her podcasts. I have learned that guessing the answers gets me better marks.

THIS CLASS IS HORRIBLE! AVOID AT ALL COST! the professor is a pretentious piece of crap, this professor cannot speak a lick of english, her taste in movies are atrocious, the quizzes are idiotic, I'd recommend just read the textbook because it's alot more interesting then the prof and the entire course

wasn't related to films more the ideas behind them, very confusing to follow. The readings were all that were important DO THEM! need to know silly info that isn't really important, like directors and authors of the readings. Do the practice Quizzes!

Comment:
Her lecture notes pertain to a lot that is unrelated to the subject at hand. She will spend most her time lecturing a topic such as colonialism rather then going more in depth with the film. Her testing is extremely confusing and difficult. Dorit, big words and complicated sentences dont mean your smart or being a good teacher.

Dorit is not the passive Canadian prof we're used to. She'll tell you if she agrees or not but she doesn't tiptoe around the point and this helps you learn. I have been challenged by 425 more than any other class and it made me a better film student. You may not like her because she challenges you, but she has asked us to challenge her back.

Worst class ever! She didn't actually teach anything, we even had to pick the readings ourselves. She gave no help in individual meetings, was rude and abrasive throughout the course, and constantly marked without regard for her own guidelines. By far, the worst course I have ever taken!

Prentious is a good word for Dr. Naaman. Confusing, not particularly open to discussion or interpretations of films. Lectures notes are seem intentionally vague and unfinished.
