Comment:
He's really good at explaining concepts in office hours. He also gives you a list of all the possible questions that will be on the midterms and quizzes, so you know exactly what to expect and what to study. That being said, the grading was kinda harsh at times. Discussion isn't mandatory, but it helps.

he's a great professor. he can appear like he might be a bit dull in class at first glance, but he's actually very clear, all the examples and topics covered in class are indeed a nice diluted version of the textbook, and a good focus on what is on the exams. I enjoyed him, he's pretty understanding during office hours, but no one ever comes in

Carlip made the content easy to comprehend and interesting. He gives a list of review questions before the tests so you know exactly what you'll be tested on. Discussion attendance is not mandatory but was very helpful before tests. I highly recommend taking this course with him!

I had Carlip for 115A+115B. Both classes were difficult. Carlip gives very hard hw and tests, but it does get easier in 115B because the material is more familiar and less mathy. He's very clear in his lectures, and he's got a good sense of humor as well. Overall I would recommend him.

Carlip is a self-admitted sadist and gives very difficult tests and problem sets, but he presents the material clearly and has a decent sense of humor. The textbooks are very helpful. Overall an effective teacher.

General Relativity RULES. Freaking impossibly hard, but is the most interesting subject ever. Carlip actually explained what the heck was going on in a way that could be understood without brain surgery.

Funny professor. No need to go to discussion, or read the book. Read chatroom the night before quiz and you'll get an A, guaranteed. Class is extremely laid back. WARNING: He is exceptionally good at detecting plagiarism. Do NOT plagiarize your final paper, trust me. Got an A on quizzes but 0 on paper.

Awful teacher, he will screw you over with a term paper worth 50% of your grade (a term paper on physics!) and he grades them really hard. He is extremely boring and I would not recommend this class to anyone.

Carlip is an awesome teacher. He really knows his stuff and he actually has a personality unlike other physics professors at Davis. His homework is very reasonable and his tests are challenging but doable. He allows one sheet of notes for the midterm and two sheets for the final. I would highly recommend him!!

Great teacher for quantum. He knows his stuff so dont hesitate to ask questions, the tests are hard but doable, just as they should be, and the homework is meant to be hard to prepare you. Must go to lecture.

Carlip is a cool professor. He makes the class fun and exciting. Even though quantum physics is mostly theoretical, he didn't delve into the details of the theory too much. His tests are fairly straightforward.
