repeatedly held us after time in lecture. I went to his office hours concerned about my grade on an exam. he said "do better on the next exam." failed that one. did worse. went back again? same response. after that I did 2 points better. went back to him. "do well on the final." If I could, I would. lied to the class about what was on the final.

Do the homework. He's very open to office hours and tutoring. He wants you to do well, just reach out. He's also super funny and makes random puns during class!

I had Professor Petasis for 110, and he was amazing. If you do the homework you'll be fine for his tests and quizzes. He is a fair grader and will drop several low graded quizzes. His explanations are clear and engages the class to do real problems. Also a very funny professor!

Nice guy, seemed like he cared for his students. He doesn't really give you any examples to learn by, you are expected to figure material out for yourself, he gives hints to guide you in the right direction. However without any proper understanding of the basic of the material its maddeningly unhelpful. Lectures cover the material in the book.

Dr. Petasis is very hard but also fair at the same time. He is also the hottest professor I have had at this school.

Modern Physics is a difficult subject and Dr. Petasis is IN LOVE with it. I even started to have slight ifatuation with it as the semester went on. He wants you to undertand quantum mechanics. Homework problems are very similar to test problems and he is helpful (but frustrating at times). Don't slack and you'll do OK

Electronics was a pretty easy class. Dr. Petasis often clings to equations or techniques for reducing problems to a managable state. If you do the homework early on, he will help you enough to get the answers before you turn it in. Expect to be on you're on your own for lab, he will disappear.

Took for 110-120 series. Nice guy. Lectures don't include a lot of example problems. Go to office hours and study, and you should be fine for exams. Labs were a joke.

Seemed to be under the impression our class had no interest in physics and never would. Homework and tests were pretty easy.

Professor Petasis did not seem particularly interested in teaching FS101 - it seemed like he didn't want to be there. Not very helpful.

Non-physics major. Tough teacher, but very fair. Makes you think about solutions instead of handing out answers. I learned a lot from Dr. Petasis, and I am glad he is a member of the Allegheny faculty. Wouldn't reccomend this course for non-physics majors.

lecture is all about proving formulas in the text, other than that class really isnt important. tests are extremely tough. you will spend more hours on this class than any other this semester.

VERY difficult. If you try to get help he offers "hints" and if you don't understand after that, too bad. Stopped giving out homework solutions half way through the semester so I had no way to figure out HOW you do the problems. I would not recommend him for any class

The material is incredibly complicated, but he does the best he can with it. Doesn't directly answer your questions because he wants you to figure it out; he'll just give you a little push, which is sometimes very frustrating. Nice guy though.

It's a really hard class and he won't always be as helpful as you want him to, but he still wants his students to succeed. Expect to spend a night or two a week locked away in the basement of Carr trying to figure out the homework.
