She is absolutely great. She know a LOT about her field. She keeps updated on current Chinese Politics and even speaks fluent Chinese. She may come off as a bit weird but if you are interested in Chinese Politics this is the class to take. Make sure to do all the readings or it will be hard to keep up with the class. It is not easy but it is worth

Terrible professor & I would NOT recommend taking her unless you enjoy a professor who wastes huge amounts of time rambling is extremely self righteous and extremely condescending. Luckily if your reading this you will probably not take her since she will be retiring Fall '16. Not useful whats ever during office hours. Only 5/60+ students get an A.

Only take this class if you are adept to doing large quantities of reading, taking meticulous notes, and immune to disorganization. In other words, the material is heavy and she is very very disorganized. I honestly felt like she wasted most of class time doing silly things like memorizing every single person's names (up till W4) & rambling.

Basically reads off the slides. The slides don't help because they don't make sense. Not an easy A. Readings are broken up in which she makes you answer questions, once again not helpful.

Not exactly an easy A, but it can be an interesting class if you put the work in to it. Grading is fair (we had three tests and an essay), and she gives you sheets that breakdown the grading. Some of reading and material was dense, but Prof. Solinger was able to make it clear. Interesting class if you are interested in Comparative politics

Notice that the few reviews for 154C are poor. She is not good at teaching this class. Readings are strange, she is very unclear/unprepared for lecture. Don't take this class. I learned nothing I couldn't have learned better on Wikipedia.

I'm taking Chinese Politics with her and she's a sweetheart! The class is not too hard, but you HAVE to do the reading and the corresponding homework assignments (which you don't have to turn in) b/c she basically uses those questions as test questions - which is nice if you've done the hw. Also, you should go to class so she remembers you :)

The best polisci professor at UCI, hands down. Her classes are challenging in a way that students really need these days. You will leave her class feeling smarter and hopefully, as a better writer too.

All these positive reviews about her are obviously from her fav students. I participated, attended class regularly, & earned B, B+, and B+ on the 2 quizzes & 1 essay, yet, she still gave me a C+! She disliked me for some reason, probably b/c of the 1x I disagreed w/ something she mentioned in class. Very biased. Avoid like plague if you are wise.

Great prof and probably the best upper div writing prof in poli sci. Based on her revisions alone it was obvious that she worked harder than any other prof(she, not a TA, WILL give legitimate thorough revisions not two illegible scribbles per paper like other profs). This class was manageable and was one of the most beneficial classes at UCI.

She was a great and caring teacher! The questions come straight from the text. Just type down everything she says and then reiterate it on her tests and you'll do great. She's a very sweet lady. I forgot to do an essay on the final and she let me come to her house in the summer and do it so I could get an A. Take her!

She's very condescending, always tells the class their writing sucks, yet she doesn't even teach us HOW 2 write.she just criticizes,no positive feedback.read boring grammar bookthat makes u fall asleep-class not recommended

Horrible! Insists on learning names for the entire humongous class. Calls on people randomly with stupid comments like there is someone with the same name sitting in front of you. A LOT of reading, very dry, a lot of it is online which makes it cheaper but hard to read. Reading questions take a lot of work... you should do it weekly.

This is class can be relatively simple if you consistently keep up with the reading. ALL short answer questions come word for word out of homework questions, meaning you're doing yourself a huge favor if you do it as they're assigned. The essay questions can be easily answered if you attend class and listen into what she thinks.

Sweet old lady w/a sense of fashion! And an impeccable memory, she memorizes everyone's name in class, no joke! Course load is pretty heavy, but well worth it. Questions on midterm giv

Very well respected in the international community. If you go to her office you will understand but she is actually called upon by China's officials and govt for advice on political issues. All poli sci professors know of her greatness, that should say enough...TAKE HER CLASS!!
