Comment:
Dr. Dow is a high quality lecturer. He doesn't post notes so take good ones. Exams are always in class hand-written essays on 2/6 questions he gives you a week in advance. There are quizzes every day over weekly readings. Participation matters. He makes the class relevant to current events rather than theoretical ethics, so discussions are good.

I took the honors section of this class. There is a lot of reading and you will have a pop quiz nearly every class over the reading homework. You have to read three books and write a ten page paper on one, two essay exams, and lots of supplemental readings. Pay attention in lectures because it is all on the exam, but he gives the questions before.

I firmly suggest you take Dow for gov2306 only if you're very interested in government. Not just for easy honors credit. However, if you do enjoy learning about law/government/history, he teaches a great course, is very good with feedback/answering questions, and is extremely knowledgeable. 10 page paper and 2 exams is most of the final grade.

This class is quite the challenge. If you enjoy government and political science, then definitely take a course with Dr. Dow. If not, this might not be the class for you. He gives great lectures that really help with the two essay tests. There is also one paper, three discussions, and quizzes every class. Overall difficult, but rewarding course.

Took him for honors Gov. Three essay tests and a 10 page paper on a book made the majority of the grade. Dow gave a quiz every lecture over the previous nights reading. If you don't read the book- you'll struggle. He's very nice outside of class and cares for his students. He held extra review sessions, and tried to make the class easier for us.

Hands down the BEST professor I have had at UTD. Dr. Dow has a clear passion for the subjects he teaches and his passion is infectious. I took Honors State & Local Gov with him and I believe that I learned more through him than I have through any other professor. The class itself is hard because you have multiple readings a day but it is worth it!

Dr. Dow is a wonderful instructor and his lectures are AMAZING. With that his class is dreadfully difficult. He is a very tough grader, and I would only suggest you to take the class only if you are a good writer and VERY interested in government. He is EXTREMELY helpful, so go to him when you need help! I worked really hard for the grade!

He's a pretty tough grader, so keep up with the readings. Other than that, his lectures are clear as day. As long as you take good notes, you should be fine.

Best class ever. Hard as hell, but don't let that deter you because it's the most rewarding class I've taken thus far. Dow is an extremely fair grader so as long as you do the work, you'll get an A. Definitely take his class. His approach is very unique and his lectures rock. Amazing class.

I took Dr. Dow for Ethics and he was excellent...though it was my hardest course all semester. We had no textbook but TONS of reading (double-sided printouts filled a 2-inch binder). He is the best lecturer I've had, and he is extremely helpful outside of class.

CV class is hard as hell, but really interesting. His enthusiasm for the subject is awesome. Pop quizzes and participation grade killed me, and (essay) tests were graded much harder than I expected, but film papers were fun and I ended up learning a lot and left feeling much more knowledgeable and interested in government than I was before.

I took his Social Issues and Ethics class and it was fairly interesting. He is a good teacher and really cares about the material. Attendance is basically mandatory and you will be doing a lot or reading. He will most likely be one of the most intelligent and thought provoking professors you will ever have.

One of the smartest professors at UTD. Lectures and reading are very dense, and you do need to go to class. But if you have any interest in political theory or constitutional application, you HAVE to take Dow.

Dow made government more interesting than I ever expected it to be by explaining the historical context in which our government was founded. I feel that I have learned a lot in his class that will come in handy during life.
