He has not been teaching ES 7 for a while and he is back with a brand new style. Awesome lectures and everything is super clear on the ppt. No pop quizzes, three tests a semesters, no cumulative final. Both lectures and recitations are optional but you will definitely learn a lot from the lectures. Nice guy, take this class with him.

Lecture slides have a lot the equations but go to class. He knows a lot of the material but may not be the best teacher. Good sense of humor and outgoing. Tests are open notes and open book so they of course are challenging.

Matson is extremely passionate about this class, but lectures are unclear and notes are generally useless to study from, both due to crappy handwriting and poor organization. Open book quizzes every week, but they're inconsistent and more of a test of the example problems you can scour for and copy onto your quiz rather than a test of aptitude.
